Mike Greenberg was not in this morning so Mike Golic was accompanied by Eric Casillias, another noted thespian and cerebral thinker. They proceeded to read a list of the worst jobs in sports and low and behold MLS soccer star was number three. The third worst job in sports, just below or above the boxing bucket handler, and football sideline personnel. They all laughed and claimed who's watching the league and who really cares. Yuck! Yuck! Ha! Ha! Oh the irony coming from those two, particularly Golic who sounds as if he had been throttled with the drool/spit bucket enough times to cause permanent brain damage. What a tool.

That may well be the case, but I objected to the flippant tone by Golic and Casillias.

I think the irony is that someone actually listens to them

and

actually cares enough about what they say

to start a thread about it

Think about who they are catering to.

Mike and Mike in the Morning is a great show.

And they're irreverent about all sports.

Soccer fans are the sorriest bunch of whiners out there. Seriously, learn to laugh at soccer.

"MLS Star" is like "military intelligence".

Well if it wasn't because my lighter is on the blink and I could not listen to Sirrus Satellite Radio, I would have been listening to something else.

You're an idiot. If you're a soccer fan, you simply can't be ok with people making fun of the sport that you love. These guys can influence a lot of people, and I don't want those dumb stereotypes to be spread.

That would be the case if the sport was taken seriously by the media. I would have no issue then, but the fact is that many commentators on ESPN seem to love to have a go at the expense of the sport and to hear two people of obviously limited mental capacity like Golic and Casillias have a laugh is a bit much to take.

And you neg-repped me for that?

Talk about the stereotypical humorless soccer fan.

I swear. I read so many posts like this, and all they do is convince me that the vast majority of you never watch ESPN or espn2. They "have a go" at everybody, every sport, and even themselves.

1. It's Kusilias

b. He may not like soccer, but to call him of "limited mental capacity" just because his taste in sports is different than yours merely shows your limited mental capacity. Eric is a great sports talk host who really gets into the nitty gritty of the issues he cares about and takes a look at them from a more cerebral angle than most sports radio guys. He's a former attorney and an incredibly bright guy who just happens to not like the sport you and I do. For the record, I listen to him almost every weekday for more than an hour and I have never heard him mention soccer, so it's not like he makes a habit out of dissing the sport.

He neg repped me for having the gall to say I wasn't bothered by SportsCenter taking the occasional jab at soccer. Hey, I've got a thought, maybe soccer isn't taken seriously because some soccer fans like scaryice have such low levels of self-esteem!! Hmmm...hmmmm.....maybe??

The only problem I have with this list is they put PGA Tour Caddy in the top five. Years ago before I got married and became a Dad, I would have loved to have been a caddy on the PGA Tour.

I agree with Andy, Mike and Mike is a great show.

People like yourself, Andy Mead, and Mike Lastort hurt the cause. Making fun of soccer is fine. But saying it's boring, stupid, who cares, etc., that's the same ignorant crap I've been hearing forever, and it is not ok. You suck for accepting it cheerfully. Peoples' opinions are influenced by what they hear from radio, tv, and other people growing up. Then it's passed down to the next generation. You have to think of the big picture. I want soccer to be the number one sport in this country, and every little thing like this hurts that cause. And you do too for accepting it.

To clarify, the problem is the behavior of ignorant radio hosts. The article is fine.

The "cause"? What "cause"?

Curing Breast Cancer - that's a cause.

Soccer - That's not a cause. It's a game. A sport. A wonderful game, the beautiful game - in fact, but it's not a cause.

"Growing the game in America" isn't a cause, either. It's an objective. But it's not really a "cause."

And "AndyMead" isn't hurting anything. It's AndiMead that's ruining "the cause". In fact, maybe you should start a thread about it (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=247057).

Now you're sending me Private Messages? I guess you wasted your neg-rep. Just spread it around and get back to me.

Seriously, grow a thicker skin.

Soccer - despite all your insecurities - is one of the most popular sports in the United States. It's true. Look around. There are four cable channels dedicated to it. It runs regularly on a multitude of English and Spanish stations. There's a PPV $12/mo satellite channel.

It's the first or second most popular youth sport.

I see soccer gear or themes in about half the ads and commercials I see.

Soccer pops up in some context in almost every regular TV series.

Soccer is part of American culture.

Another part of American culture is poking fun at itself.

Actually, it's humorless (or is it humourless) individuals like you that are "hurting the cause."

Why? because it's whiny bitches like you that reinforce the stereotype of "run to mamma" soccer fan that unfortunately appears to be all too true.

Grow a thicker skin.

Hey,

Seriously, how can you be ok with soccer being treated badly? You can't reward people for that behavior by listening to their radio shows and watching their tv programs. Espn still has a hell of a long way to go until they've made up for all the crap they've done.

Wow. That pretty much tells me all I need to know. "all the crap they've done." Like broadcast every game of the last 2 World Cup live and without interruption? Like broadcast 25 MLS games or more per year for the last ten years? Like showing years worth of UEFA Champions League games live and uninterrupted?

ESPN doesn't do "crap" to soccer. They're in the business of making money for their corporate overlords and masters. If they did "crap" to soccer out of spite, they'd all get fired and replaced by new beancounters.

ESPN hasn't done shit to soccer that they haven't done tenfold to Baseball, Hockey, Football (I'm sorry, American Football), or Basketball.

If you think decisions are made at ESPN are made based on personal vendettas or the like, then you have lead a sheltered existence. It's all about money. And professional soccer has been losing money for more American businessmen for the last forty years than probably all other sports combined.
