Copa Lib NOT Coming to FSW Anytime Soon

Congratulations on a great channel. In my 6 weeks of having digital cable it has quickly become my favorite.

Is there any chance of getting the Copa Libertadores on the main FSW channel? I don't get FSWE nor speak Spanish and I am highly interested in watching the games (especially since many are live in prime time in the U.S.) if at all possible.


Their reply from Monday:

No sorry, the games are only for the Spanish channel...


Rats. Anyone know if it's a rights issue or just their choice?

Random thoughts:
First of all, it's nice that they responded. Second, I feel sorry for you guys that can't get FSWE, the Copa Lib. is a lot of fun,as some of the games can get pretty wild. I think last year I saw commercial for the english broadcasts on a PPV package on INDemand, but I haven't seen any this year. I've actually been taping one game a night to watch when I get off work.

Where I live you have to pay extra for the French,Italian,and some of the Spanish channels and FSWE is part of a 5 channel Spanish Language package. So basically FSW is part of the basic digital package and FSWE costs extra to have. That just doesnt seem right.

I don't even have the option for FSWE, at least you can get it.

I did write back asking if it was a rights issue or a decision on their part, I'll let you know if I get a reply.

I bought the Latina pack specifically to get the Copa Libertadores on FSWE.

The bonus is I got Galavision and other channels that show Mexican soccer and also a few other games not shown on English speaking channels.

Its worth the extra outlay to me.

Well I have Directv and FSWE, but I don`t know if Directv has different channels depending the country where you are, because I also have CNN and CNN spanish, you have the chance to get channels you want, as for example Directv has ESPN deportes, but you have the chance to get ESPN2 (local for USA as far as I know) and also has the chance to get Italians, Portuguese, German channels if you paid for then.
Anyway, FSWE is so cool, I have seen all the Copa Libertadores de America`s coverage

What you are talking is Directv Latin America. Directv USA doesn't have a sniff on these channels. That's why Directv USA sucks as far as soccer is concerned.

Of course, Directv Latin America is a system every soccer fan in the U.S. would love to have, but can't.

In South America, as you said. All our cables companies has usa, latinamerican and european´s channels.
But ESPN: isn´t played in USA? Isn´t ESPN2 a USA channel? There should be some cable company in your country who have international channels.

Are you talking about ESPN2 or ESPN Dos?

In South America, your ESPN is actually ESPN Sur or ESPN Latin America, which is a completely different animal from the ESPN we have in the U.S. If you are in Brazil, then it's ESPN Brazil, which is also different from ESPN Sur or Latin America.

In the US, we have ESPN2, which is also a completely different animal from your ESPN Dos.

Your ESPN Sur/Latin America and ESPN Dos have 3 la Liga and 8 Champions League games per week. Our ESPN USA and ESPN2 have a total of 1 Champions League game per week (no la Liga). We have non-stop telecasts of American college basketball, Strongest men competititon, drag racing, cheerleading competition, though.

That's why soccer fans in the U.S. would love to have access to ESPN Latin America and ESPN Dos.

Yes I have the ESPN Sur/Latin America, and the ESPN dos (They show the NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA, the strongest men, and college rugby, but also one match from La liga , including Real Madrid sometimes, and from the Champion)the Fox Sport for Latin America. But also have a Brasilian channel, non ESPN, where they play matches from the Brasilian League and so with the Italian.
But check out this treat "us soccer" in the Beautiful Game forum, there some US people discussing the same matter. Also there´s a channel called Gol TV, for the USA.

I believe as it proceeds into the later rounds they will become PPV.

Last season, I had to order from inDEMAND to watch, in horror, Gremio mopping the field up with River Plate in two games.

Interestingly enough, they were in English, with Max Bretos and Christian Bozzo doing the broadcast. I should think there was also SAP available, but I don't know that for a fact.
