Has it been resolved finally? This report, in the "Nigerian Tribune", says that he'll play for Chelsea: http://www.tribune.com.ng/12052006/sports3.html
It doesn't mention anything more really though.

There's no new information there.
The last I heard FIFA could not make a ruling on this case as Obi Mikels agent was appealing a court decision in Norway. This case will only be resolved if United choose to step aside, or Obi Mikel recognises he's better off at United, or FIFA finally make a ruling.

Mikel Secures Career Freedom
At last, the transfer logjam over Super Eagles capped Nigerian teenage dazzler, John Obi Mikel, has been resolved and the player can now join Chelsea of England, Nigeriansportsonline.com can reveal exclusively.
Our findings at the former Plateau United’s family on Wednesday reveal that Mikel stepped into his career freedom on Saturday when the transfer feud between two English Premiership sides, Manchester United and Chelsea was resolved.
Mikel had signed a contract in April 2005, on attaining 18 years, with Manchester United. But an obviously embittered John Ola Shittu, agent of the Silver Ball winning player at the 2005 World Youth Championship in Holland, claimed it was a ruse as the player personally claimed he signed the papers under duress.
This claim sparked off a feud that has gone down in the records as one of the most celebrated transfer case in European football.
Nigeriansportsonline.com reports that Lyn Oslo, Mikel’s Norwegian club, led by Morgan Andersen, their Sports Director, threw their weight behind Manchester United, saying that they made a clean deal and that the young Nigerian signed the contract documents out of his own free will.
This dragged the matter to FIFA who obviously do not seem to be deeply involved with the case on account of the profile of the two English clubs involved in the drama.
And while FIFA were being expected to deliver their judgment in the case, English Premiership Board Chairman mediated in the impasse, trying to see that the matter was settled out of court.
A family source of Obi Mikel’s sensationally told Nigeriansportsonline.com on Wednesday that such peace talks produced good results over the weekend as the matter was eventually resolved.
“As I am talking with you know, the matter has been resolved and Mikel will start playing when the league resumes in England after the World Cup,” a family source told Nigeriansportsonline.com.
“All the parties involved have reached compromise and this is good news to us.
“When the season starts, Mikel will be playing for Chelsea,” the usually impeccable source said.
The source did not give full details of the final outcome though.
“The agent (Ola Shittu) called me immediately after the meeting on Saturday to tell me.
“He said he will call me later to tell me the details but he has not called.
“Certainly, in the next few days, he will call. So I am waiting,” the source told Nigeriansportsonline.com.
Our findings also reveal that Mikel himself called one of his brothers on Wednesday morning in the same regard but he said he would give him details later.

The story implies that United have struck a deal with Chelsea to end the saga. If so, I hope United are getting some cash out of this after all the hassle this issue has caused them.

True and even though I nothing about Nigerian media the lines, "A family source", "the usually impeccable source " and "“He said he will call me later to tell me the details but he has not called." make me suspicious. The cynic in me says it reads like a Sun article.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. Dunno, it just makes sense to me, call it gut feeling . It's just hard to know what on earth is going on with this saga and who/what to believe.

I was waiting for this to come back up. I didn't think this situation would go this far. He is seriously getting into sidetracked career time at his age with his lack of playing time. At first, I held out hope he would eventually become a ManU player, but that is not happening at this point.

Lyn have denied these reports. We'll just have to wait and see who is right. The sooner this is resolved the better. I guess for Obi Mikel it is better that everything is sorted out so he can take part in pre-season training for his new club.

Charley, are you some kind of multi-lingual language wizz or something? Seen you post links to articles in Spanish (transfer thread) and Norwegian now but can't make head nor tail of 'em. lol, I even struggle with English sometimes. Any chance of a rough translation if you are?

As far as I'm concerned, this thing can't go on long enough. He's not coming to United, so he can rot.

I do have this fascination with reading the sports pages in non-english speaking countries. I know a little bit of a number of languages and it's the only time I ever get to make use of it.
I lived in Sweden for a while so I can kind of handle Norwegian to some extent. Basically the article says that Lyn have denied that a deal has been done with Chelsea. They say that they hold the license for Obi Mikel so no agreement can be made without them being involved.

I'm hoping that both Striker and Zinn get laid before Mikel plays again.

We cannot let Chelsea bully us out of a player. If he does not want to come to us why did he sign?
