So, if McNair was already willing to hire Dan Reeves without telling Casserly and apparently had some new GM candidates in mind (see McClain's piece in the Chron), then why wait this long to make this change?

Why not make this change before the draft?

Is this a good thing generally for the Texans?

I've read theories that they kept him around through the draft so he couldn't tell other teams what we were planning on doing with the first pick. Also, that he'd done scouting on players for later rounds that a new guy wouldn't be up to speed on. I'm not saying I agree with either of those theories, just that they're out there.

But regardless, I'm glad he's gone.

Casserly's going to the NFL front office.

Casserly's going to the NFL front office.Yeah, but McNair may just have been giving him time to find another gig. If he brought in Dan Reeves without consulting his GM, it's pretty easy to read the handwriting on the wall. So why not make the change at the end of last season and give the new guy time to work on the draft scouting?

I drink the Texans Kool-Aid, so I have to agree. Casserly needed to stay on board, he knows how to evaluate talent as far as players...not coaches (see Dom Capers).
