Just an early warning that Metro is CLOSING the Stadium Armory Metro stop June 2-4th for track work. United plays the Revolution on June 3rd at 7:30.
Post story (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/10/AR2006051002235.html)
This year, the first round-the-clock operation is scheduled for June 2-4 at the Stadium-Armory Station, while the Washington Nationals play out of town. The station will remain open during the track work, but both tracks will be closed. Free shuttle buses will ferry passengers between Stadium-Armory and Minnesota Avenue on the Orange Line and Benning Road on the Blue Line.
Plan accordingly.

1. Nice respect for the other team at RFK
2. The Nationals are always out of town...even when they're at home

Typical BS overreaction.:D You are ascribing motive, intent and premeditation to an organization that has been unable to figure out how to fix its escalators in the 19 years I have lived in the area.

Yeah but they play 3 games a weekend, so they have more people coming to RFK each weekend on the metro.

Not at all fair sir, just not fair at all. Metro just discovered it HAD escalators last year. There's a rumor circulating around the front office that there may actually be some parts of the system that aren't underground. Of course consultants will be needed to confirm that rumor. If proven to be true, word is they will investigate why parts of the system were swallowed up by the earth and dig them back out, thus eliminating the escalator problem.

What does this mean?
Can you exit the Stadium-Armory station if you get on the Metro WEST of RFK?

They are supposed to be running shuttle buses though. Of course those can only carry a tiny fraction of the traffic a train does. Prepare to drive. For me it takes less time and hassle to drive anyway from Arlington.

we always drove, from both Rockville and Arlington, it's much easier :)

The Potomac Avenue Station is not that far away from RFK. I actully used that station quite a bit for Nationals games last summer when the Stadium Armory was just way too overwhelmed. ITs about a 15 minute walk from the Potomac Avenue Station to RFK Stadium, and on a nice day, its a pleasant walk. Shouldnt be too big of a deal really, espeically if they are running shuttle buses from Potomac Avenue. They might be small, but at least it will give the option to those who arent so inclined to do the 15 minute walk.
I use metro only to get to games most of the time, and this doesnt bother me too much really. Though, if I really want, I know I can catch a ride to and from RFK with plenty of good people I know that go every game, that live near me.

They just subscribe to the Mitch Hedberg philosophy:
"An Escalator can never be broken. It can only become stairs."

The title thread makes me wonder if ESC or the ghost of Alexi Lalas is coming down to RFK to exact revenge on someone ....

Metro repair work has been postponed -- the Blue and Yellow lines near Braddock Road will be running on usual service tonight.
