United sets up to tee off

Details finalized for Fifth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament

presented by East West Mortgage and R&R Catering

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 10, 2006) - United for D.C., the non-profit arm of D.C. United, announced today details of the Fifth Annual United Celebrity Golf Tournament, presented by East West Mortgage and R&R Catering. Golfers will gather at Old Hickory Golf Club in Woodbridge, Virginia for a 1:30 p.m. ET shotgun start on Monday, June 5. Participants in this year’s event will play alongside current and former United players and coaches as well as a host of other local sports and media celebrities, all while raising money for United for D.C.

“The annual golf tournament is one of the most enjoyable and profitable events on the United for D.C. fundraising calendar,” said Executive Director of United for D.C. and United Director of Community Relations, Catherine Marquette. “We have ambitious goals for this fifth running of the tournament, but we expect great things from our largest fundraiser of the year. We hope our fans will come out and celebrate the start of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with D.C. United on the links.”

New to the event, East West Mortgage as signed on as a presenting sponsor of the golf tournament. R&R Catering, also a presenting sponsor, will donate lunch and dinner at Old Hickory. ARAMARK Sports & Entertainment has renewed its commitment as a hole sponsor, and the Washington Examiner and United Bank have joined them. Foursomes already committed include AEM, GEICO, Miller & Long, the Barra Brava, Benchmark Mortgage, Verizon Wireless and others. Anheuser-Busch will donate an assortment of beer products throughout the day.

Companies and other organizations still have the opportunity to join forces with United for D.C. as a sponsor of this event. Sponsorship opportunities are available, which include a foursome, ranging from $5,000 as presenting sponsor to $1,750 as a one-hole sponsor. Groups may donate $800 to form a foursome, to be paired with a fifth player, that being a celebrity, and individuals may participate by donating $200 for a playing slot. Participants in the tournament will each receive a gift package, which will include United for D.C. logo-ed golf balls and a United for D.C. logo-ed golf wallet/valuables/scorecard holder, as well as complimentary lunch and dinner, graciously provided by R&R Catering, and unlimited beverages throughout the day. They will also have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and mulligans and bid on an array of silent auction items. Team prizes will be given for first, second, third and last place teams.

Team prizes will be given for first, second, third and last place teams.

The Barra Brava Golf Team has laid down the challenge and staked its claim to the last place team prize. That is if we remember to submitt our scorecard this year.

This event is a blast. Everyone should sign up. As Red&Black and I can attest to skill is not a pre-requisite to having a good time.

Already got my foursome together and sent the money in last week.

Should be a great time. It always is.

My family will be playing again (although my mother is very distraught at the fact Harkes will be in Germany this year) and I got my company to pony up for a one-hole sponsorship.

This really is a great time.

Anheuser-Busch will donate an assortment of beer products throughout the day. Nice to see even they don't claim they make actual beer :D

You guys have fun, I want to see a SE vs BB foursome side-bet (to charity of course)

Once again the illustrious borachos de la Barra Brava, and me, lol, will
scorch the links. I just hope they don't expect us to do it with a low score.
Paging Dan Akroyd!!

Viva La Barra!

i think all would agree that we drank the most beer last year of any team and i bet we would have had high score if not for a) we got drunk and forgot to turn in the card b) our captain completely cheats
:D

Since you had to back out, Bill, your spot was taken by my friend Ed. The rest of our group is still Mike, Steve and me.

I think I'm going to play -- don't have any partners -- any one here wish to put a foursome together?

its a damn good time. sometimes the "solo" dudes get to play with several team people so you might end up with two or 3 players/staff in your fivesome.

much like united itself, the barra golf team returns all 4 members from last year (and i think jay and i have done it together 4 years in a row) so we have the elusive "chemistry" and "knowledge" of each other's moves. alas, unlike united, this is unlikely to prove decisive in garnering results.

Translated this means the other guys know when to duck or jump in the bushes when Big Rob's teeing off. :D

Since I'm tired of stewing over World Cup results, I thought I'd dig this up.

There's a new Access United video featuring the Golf Tournament. Both Barra teams are featured prominantly.

It's highlighted on the front page of DCUnited.com (the javasript thing prevents me from offering a direct link), it's the feature after Simms.......and the picture is of our foursome with Eski.

Excellent job Kyle, and it was a pleasure meeting you that day, I only wish you would have tagged along more, as our game peaked with the camera on us.

Good stuff from both players. Boz didnt seem the least disappointed that we didnt live up to his pre-game hype.

It was a great time.
