In the run up to the UEFA Cup final, my hometown hosted the first annual EFPA (http://www.efpafootball.com/index.html) game. The game was played in Eindhoven's 2-bit stadium (3,000 seater). Here are the rosters for those interested.

EFPA team:
Coaches- Terry Venables & Josep Maria Fuste

1- Thomas Ravelli (Sweden)
2- Dave Watson (England)
3- Juan Carlos Rodriguez (Spain)
4- Paulo Sousa (Portugal)
6- Gheorghe Popescu (Romania)
7- Andoni Goikoetxea (Spain)
9- Ulf Kirsten (Germany)
10- Enzo Scifo (Belgium)
11- Dariuisz Dziekanowski (Poland)
12- Ally McCoist (Scotland)
15- Roberto Fernandez (Spain)
18- Zvonimir Boban (Croatia)
19- Toni Polster (Austria)
24- Valery Karpin (Russia)
99- Jean-Pierre Papin (France)

Ex-Netherlands Internationals
Coach Jan Reker

1- Andre van Gerven
2- Berry van Aerle
3- Michel van de Korput
4- Ernest Faver
5- Jan Heintze
6- Marc van Hintum
7- Rene van de Kerkhof
8- Willy van de Kerkhof
9- Peter Houtman
10- Gerald Vanenburg
11- Simon Tahamata
12- Arnold Scholten
13- Bennie Wijnstekers
14- John Feskens
15- Mart van Duren
17- Stan Valckx
18- Jan Poortvliet
18- Albert van der Sleen (res. keeper)

The EFPA team won the match comfortably with a 3-0; a score that should've been higher had it not been for 2 questionable offsides calls. Ulf Kirsten open up the score sheet in the 13th minute, following a wave of attacks from the Europeans. Toni Polster came on for Kirsten after half time and went past three players to bring the score to 2-0. Dave Watson, who had been playing really well in the back, came forward to score off a pass by Goikoetxea (his 2nd assist) after the defense failed to clear the ball properly. My vote for Man of the Match would unhesitatingly go for Valery Karpin, by far the freshest and most active player on the pitch. Karpin was practically all over the pitch, practically running circles aroung Paulo Sousa, who, I may add, was taken off at halftime.

He is the man! Very underrated player...one of my personal faves.

Glad to see he can still kick it! :D
