I think its a really weird situation. I believe Ruud was put in a situation where it was easier the fail than succeed. You cant help but think that Fergie was targeting Ruud for whatever reason. If you believe the press reports (which do not always add up) then it was a smart move by fergie so as to not affect the team spirit. Overall I will be glad to see him leave, but I wont sit here all day and petition and cry. In the end, Fergie has enough brains to replace him and keep this ship sailing pretty.

It's been proved a very complex situation when Fergie does this, but this time I JUST DONT GET IT! What is Fergie thinking??? Were trying to strengthen our team, not weaken it, and by getting rid of Ruud's 25+ goals a season, were weakening it. We were a 3rd place team this year without Ruud, and I think everybody on this board knows it. Why would we wanna build up the midfield, just to take away our target forward who needs those midfielders? It just doesn't add up to me. If Fergie is gonna get rid of Ruud, he needs to atleast get about 15-20 million for him, and a very suitable replacement who can atleast add another 20 goals a season.

It's pointless to speculate what we would have been or not been with so or so either in the lineup or not this season. This season is over; we were second; final. You could sit and speculate, "Well, what if Keane hadn't left, Scholes didn't have blurry vision, blah, blah, blah." It's time to analyze where the club is heading.

We already talked as much as we could about this topic in several other threads, now if someone has the time to look through them, pick out, and move the best posts about it, providing all sides, that would be the best thing.

Nah, Henry isn't leaving. A guy intent on leaving doesn't kiss his team's pitch.

When are you putting the podcast together? If it isn't for another day or two then I will weigh in on it thoroughly either this afternoon (GMT) or tomorrow morning (GMT) since I want to put a thorough yet concise enough post, which of course takes a little time and thought (and right now I am in cram-mode, the two of which do not link up all that well :o).

Tomorrow night for me (May 10), around 0200 GMT on May 11 for you. Focus on your studies though, trust me this podcast isn't enough to derail your future over.
Yet. :p

Fergie is an egomaniac. Ruud is a preening prima donna. Manchester United doesn't need the guaranteed 20 goals per season that Ruud brings.
While all this is excellent fodder for debate, it doesn't obscure the main fact: Ruud Van Nistelrooy is leaving Manchester United. Finally the annual summer rumors are going to be true. The consequences of his leaving will only be known at some point in the future. There will days in which the posters in this forum will say "who needs Ruud". There will be days in which the posters in this forum will say "we sure could use Ruud right now". But the only measurements that matter will be results, in both the Prem and in the Champions League.
Three years on, the business with Beckham, which the current Ruud situation imperfectly resembles, doesn't seem like bad business. We all eagerly await the returns from this new business. In the meantime, I say the club got their money's worth from Ruud and the fans had the pleasure, for a little while, of being able to seriously offer a candidate to oppose Henry as the best striker in the Prem.
Thanks for everything Ruud and good luck.

Ok Gl*zers, we've hated you from the start for indebting our club to the tune of £600m to the banks and lenders who helped you out. Do you want to know what you can do at this point to go up in our estimation? Get Fergie and Ruud to kiss and make up. Find a way to keep a man who has scored 150 goals for this club in five seasons, our top European scorer ever, and someone who is known to be nothing but loyal to the crest on the shirt. Find a way for him to get back on good terms with the most successful manager in British history, with a man who took over a well-supported but struggling club 20 years ago and made them the biggest team in the world, the most exciting team, a team we're all proud to not just support but to be passionate about.
So you hear that, Joel and Bryan? Make it happen. Get those two together, send them out to dinner at the new Gordon Ramsay restaurant, have them reminisce about the good times and get them back to doing what we all know they love--winning matches for Manchester United. Do that, and I just might give you the "a" back in your last name. I know you're worried about your father right now, and I can understand that. But its time to also be worried about your investment. It's something we're all invested in to one degree or another, and if you want yours to pay off, you'll do well do keep your world-class striker and world-class manager together.
