Lahm played right back during the whole youth system and in the Bayern reserves. He was put to left back by Magath at Stuttgart only because their left back was injured. He also played sometimes right back instead of Hinkel at Stuttgart.

Okay, I'm going to say something weird here, but I LOVE the squad. Once again, Klinsmann shows no favorites.

Best thing: no Ernst! He blows! I actually do think Hitzlsperger is better than this static, lazy asshole. No more Ernst.

Odonkor is the blazing pace that is so lacking for the German NT. Podolski/Lahm are the fastest players on the team minus Odonkor, and they do not come close to matching the natural pace of Odonkor. Maybe in the WC, he can learn to stay on his feet and put in a decent cross, but in the U21s, he's been doing that. ;)

2 things that I want to say in the negative, but it's not too much of a negative.

1) I think that Schneider should have been dropped. He's a good player, but Trochowski/Boateng/Scholl are more audacious and have more potential for reward than Schneider. But I can see that he can play RB too, so no problems there.

2) Hanke. He blows. Nuff said. Wish Kuranyi was there instead.

Wow... what a thing to wake up to!

Hanke over Kuranyi is a big surprise to be certain (Neither has played well, but at least Kuranyi had lots of NT experience). Odonkor is by far the biggest surprise (well... duh!). While I wouldn't have picked him, he certainly (as others have said here) could give the opposing leftbacks huge headaches with his pace. Ernst out is fine by me, but choosing Hitz in his place is disappointing. Scholl or Trochowski would have been a much better solution. Hitz doesn't do anything that Ballack or Borowski can't do better (though having Hitz's cannon of a shot could be nice), while either Piotr or Mehmet would have added a creative influence sorely lacking on this squad.

Just read on the BvB site, that Odonkor played 33 of 34 games and hits by far the most crossesin the whole Bundesliga. Odonkor played 225 crosses, second in Bundesliga was Gronkjaer with 115.

Ha, ha, statistics.

If you see it, you think, thatīs good,
but how many balls reached a teammate
and lead to goals.

Donīt get me wrong,
i really support his nomination from tactical points,
but he also has to know,
that the quality of crosses and shots
are below-BL-average.
He really has to improve it.

I understand your arguments about Hitz,
but the guy had a horrible season.
IMHO he canīt help the team.

Last point:
No offense to Hanke, but i donīt get his nomination.

About substitute Huth i donīt want to speak again.

Klinsi said, when he started his job, that his WC players
must be starters at the clubs and now: ...

Rant:...To get Klinsi's approval for you in the Germany national team, all you need to do is to get yourself signed by any English club in the primier league, even with Sunderland, Pompey, Birmingham ...because he is currying favour with the English public and wish to get a coaching job after his career with Dfb is done!!!...End of Rant

So, where is Markus Volz?

Is he better or worse than Huth or Hitzlsperger?

Itīs a difference if youīre crosses come to Smolarek or to Klose.

Koller was out and Smolarek didnīt score in the second half of the season.
And I think, Odonkors pace was sometimes not a benefit in the Dortmund squad, because he too often had to brake and wait for the center strikers.

But with a fast top class heading player like Klose in the middle, and a fast Podolski on the far post it could work very well with crossing out of the run.

And no fullback can risk to play very offensive against Odonkor because he will never reach him if he once is behind him. That couldnīt be bad against players like Carlos or Cole.

And I wouldnīt hope for Odonkors crosses alone, but on many freekicks he will provocate from the half right position. Thatīs not bad for a Schneider cross on Ballacks or Kloses head.

Speaking of Volz, his form took a huge swandive after coming back from an injury this winter. Too bad, he was having a very good 1st half of the season, now he's benched.

Iīm especially happy for JENS NOWOTNY (BAYER LEVERKUSEN) and the former LEVERKUSENīs player Oliver Neuville. Looks like Bayer Leverkusen "produced" top stars. Ballack was also educated with our club.

No Owomoyela and Kuranyi?! But theyīre in all the commercials!

Ahaha, that made me laugh out loud! :D

Seriously, I'm not a big fan of Hitzslperger. But considering how bad I am at predicting and evaluating he will score a stunner of a goal in the tournament.

I would have preferred Kießling over Hanke as well but I just hope Podolski and Klose don't get injured.

Kuranyi not in the WC, That is the worst mistake klinnsmann has done, he is a talented forward who does good in NT.

That's right, Leverkusen is well represented. I wanted Kiessling though, he's better than Hanke
