As some of you may or may not know, Cablevision offers ABC & ESPN in High Definition, but not ESPN2.

Heading into the World Cup, we need that to change.

Spoke with a nice lady with an English accent named Barbara in Cablevision's Programming Department and she described ESPN2-HD as being on their "short list" of channels to add, but they don't know how soon it can be added.

The tournament begins a month from tomorrow. And of the 64 games, 31 will be aired on ESPN2.

Please call Cablevision (whether you are a Cablevision customer or not, just tell them you are a customer) and request that they add ESPN2-HD to their lineup before June 9th. Tell them you are a soccer fan and you want to see all 64 World Cup games in High Definition.

The phone number of their corporate office is (516) 803-2300. Ask to be connected to the Programming Department.

Be polite. Be enthusiastic. This will only take 2 minutes of your time.

While we're at it, how about getting ESPNU and CSTV? Can we at least get OLN on basic?

Let's deal with the urgent matter at hand. ESPN2-HD is the priority. Don't clutter up the conversation with other requests.

OK, folks, how are we doing working the phones?

Anyone get in touch with Barbara in the Programming Department at Cablevision yet?

Post your post-conversation results here.

Cablevision and RBNY have been close partners for several years, so I suspect they'll get something done in time. Not soccer-bashers by any stretch. JMO

Just spoke with Barbara again regarding ESPN2 in HD. She said she doesn't think they will be able to get it done in time for the Cup, but then she said, "...keep an eye on the channel guide, stranger things have happened."

In other words, she's probably not being permitted to give out tons of information, but the wink in her voice led me to believe that our pressure is working.

The more phone calls, the more likely this will happen. Please call (516) 803-2300. Ask for the Programming Department. You don't have to go through a voicemail system. You actually get real human beings right away. This will take 2 minutes of your time.

Ask for ESPN2 in HD in time for the World Cup. Ask nicely. She seems like a nice lady.
