It is shame that such a great player like denilson will be leaving even though he desired to stay.

Well this issue again raises the whole topic of the "French teams are handicapped financially" arguement. Its a shame that nothing is ever done about it to help French clubs compete better with their European competitiors. I knew that this TV deal Ligue 1 signed would have little effect on that as evidence here with Denilson. Then again I dont think Bordeaux have ever been big spenders.

Denilson is not a big loss for Bordeaux since they have got Smicer back on their side. Even Cheyrou and Alonso can operate on the left side at times, so why afford to pay such an expensive wage for a has-been player? No need for it.

As far as I know, Bordeaux have never been a spending club in L1. Their annual budget is around about € 39m and as you can see, it's not that big in comparison to other clubs.

39m is too low for a club like that. They are cheapskates.
