A couple of interesting things about the season just finished.

The following is a breakdown of points dropped by United by ending position of the opponent:

1-4 5 points dropped (*United in this group)
5-8 8 points dropped
9-12 2 points dropped
13-16 10 points dropped
17-20 4 points dropped

Here is United's season, separated into sections, in chronological order:

Start of season
3 games, 9 points
7 games, 9 points
8 games, 22 points
6 games, 8 points
9 games, 27 points
5 games, 8 points
End of season

Other interesting things from this season:

The revival and then disappearance of Ruud
The return of Saha
Rooney becomes the talisman
Pique and Rossi arrive
Scholes goes down
Solskjaer comes back
Bardsley fills in well
Hit and miss (so far) in January signings
Van der Sar fills the gap
Fletcher goes backward
O'Shea reborn
Giggs becomes a CM
Goodbye Keano

The list could go on. Just looking for other thoughts about this season as whole. Where did we lose it? What can be done? Is this the end of/beginning of a new era?

We're definitely in a transition period and it's important Ferguson makes the right decisions to send us in the right direction - for the long term. I think our success for next season will absolutely depend on the transfer we will be involved in. Letting the right players go, and acquiring the right players will obviously make the difference. We've talked about this before in the various transfer threads, we need a strong CM, but another important aspect which I hope Ferguson will implement is our youth players. I think most of them have done enough to get enough playing time next season.
