Well--and this is strictly my opinion from watching the sorts of goals he scores on Futbol de Primera and the occasional broadcast--he's a tall guy who is more of a "subtle" header of the ball than a power player.
He's essentially a goal-poacher, very dangerous in and around the box, but he's not going to beat anyone with speed.
He's not really a true target player, not as physical as a Martin Palermo.
He gets himself into good positions to score and makes the most of his chances.

Are independiente gonna struggle for goals now? Do they have someone to step up and fill his shoes?

It looks like Frutos is still a top scorer in belgium, too bad pekerman never gave him a chance in the national team.

couldn't have been as bad as your compatriot Juan Pablo Angel's last performance with A.Villa.......:( that was a horrendous performance.

I agree. Apart from a few good actions, he did not do much. I was much more impressed by Biglia, who looks very promising as a playmaker to me.

Am I Colombian? Wow, that's news to me. JP Angel is over-rated. He has been since his mediocre River Plate-days.
Biglia has talent: technically and tactically sounds, but he needs to develop some mean streak in his game. He still plays the same game as his Argentinos and Independiente-days. Lil' pass to the left, lil' pass to the right. Yet, to play in that position in the CL, you need to also show some true fighting spirit and winner's mentality. He's got talent, but I'm not totally sold on the kid yet.

Hey, if you're playing with Anderlecht against AC Milan, it's not easy to play a fantastic game as a striker. (especially if you're not a counterstriker) Look at the defence Milan's got. I was content with Nico's performance.
He played well, also in the previous matches this season, and he has quickly become the leader of the group.
I think that he has only played about 17 complete -official- matches with Anderlecht, but he has already scored 15 times.
Ok, it's mainly the belgian league, but he is obviously capable of a higher level.
And besides: rapidly adapting to a different kind of football is proof of his class. Biglia, my favourite player at Anderlecht, has had a lot more trouble with that.
For a player with his stature, he has a very good technique and is good in fast combinations, he can even dribble a few defenders in Belgium :d
We didn't get to see that from Jan Koller (who played at Anderlecht a few years back, and to whom Frutos is sometimes compared)
Overall, i'm extremely happy with Anderlecht's choice to search the south american market. Pareja, Frutos, Biglia and in a lower extent Leiva are players I love to see at Anderlecht. I'd much rather have those players than the same old average belgian butchers. At Anderlecht, having a good technique is still the main criterium (the last few years: zetterberg, kompany, wilhelmsson, aruna dindane, biglia, hassan, boussoufa, stoica, baseggio, vandenborre, akin, ...)
The Management and scouting of the club are currently in South-America. They are looking in Argentina for some quality players for the next season, and they're also following youth tournaments in Brazil. They would like to build a network over there, just like they did in Argentina.

I agree with you. But in the game against Real Madrid, he showed his true potential and that he is capable of all the above.
But I think Biglia is not your typical playmaker at all. He's a controlling midfielder like Pirlo, he is definitaly not an Aimar kind of player.
Too bad he has only been here half a season, or he would win the belgian golden boot. Now it'll be Boussoufa with Frutos in second place
