"Ballack arrival seals Eidurs fate"

Arnór Gudjohnsen the father and agent of Icelandic international Eidur Gudjohnsen believes the arrival of Michael Ballack to Chelsea in the summer has sealed the fate of the talented Chelsea striker.

“I had a meeting with Peter Kenyon last Tuesday and although he didnt tell me in his own words that Michael Ballack was joining the club he left me with the impression that Eidur would be sacrificed for Ballack.

“José Mourinho rates Eidur highly but he just cant fit him into the team because Eidur’s best position is as the supporting forward and thats not how Chelsea play,” said Arnór Gudjohnsen.

The former Iceland international turned agent confirmed that Blackburn Rovers are the only club to have made an approach for Eidur but said that his future will not be decided swiftly.

“Eidur does not want to rush things. He knows of Blackburn’s interest and was allowed by Chelsea to speak to the Blackburn chairman and manager after last Tuesday’s game and although the talks went very well, especially with Mark Hughes who Eidur admirers, he wants more time.

“There is talk of Manchester United and I am aware of Tottenham´s interest but that’s just paper talk at the moment. As I say Blackburn are the only club to have made an approach and are the only club to have talked to Eidur,” continued Gudjohnsen snr.

Gudjohnsen snr, believes his son will stay in England as the Premiership is the most exiting league in the world.

“Eidur loves the English game and the supporters are the greatest in the world. His future will be decided in the coming weeks but it could drag on well into the summer as Eidur has not any World Cup distractions to think about.

“As soon as a formal offer will be made for Eidur and Chelsea agree to that, I will speak to that club. Hopefully Eidur will join a forward thinking club with great ambition,” condluded Gudjohnsen snr.

According to Dagbladid source Eidur Gudjohnsen has been in informal negotiations with a Premiership club the past week, believed to be Blackburn Rovers. He was left out of the side which lost to Newcastle yesterday in order to sort out his future.

Dagbladid understands a decision on Gudjohnsen´s future could be made as early as this week.

it would be great if he came, but if Man U or Tottenham are very serious about getting him, we might have a hard time competing with them financially.

WOW!!

What might the costs be, transfer and salary? I think he'd be a fantastic partner for Bellamy.

As for Spurs...if I were Eidur, I'd rather go to Rovers where I'm on a UEFA team and I'll have to play my way out of the starting lineup, than go to Spurs, a UEFA team, and compete with Mido, Defoe, and Keane. Of course, if he has a house and/or life in London, not having to move would have an appeal.

ManU? I would think they'd have too much pride to take Chelsea's sloppy seconds.

I dunno, Man U doesn't mind getting Leeds players, after all.

You're right though; he may ultimately decide that he doesn't want to leave London. :(

As so far as leaving London... Does he have a wife & kids who need to be factored when making a move northward? Selling out of London isn't a big deal for a single man, but it might be hard to get his family (if he has one) to make the move to Lancashire.

It would be truly lovely to make him on the squad. We already have the heart, drive and determination, but I feel that we are missing a bit of "class" on our roster, which Gudjsey would certainly fill. And, I think the combo between him and MGP would be lethal.

This would be my favorite Blackburn signing in a very long time.

Sorry!!! A bit OT...

Isn't Cheshire one of the big areas for footy players to live? I know Beckham had a place there when he was playing for Man Utd., and I believe Savage and some of the others live there too, don't they?

Gudjohnsen goes to with Barcelona for €12 million with another €3 million in incentives on 14 June. Unfortunate.

Yeah, realistically, I don't think we were ever a serious contender for him.

He will actually be a good fit for them, I think.
