Soccerprime, sticky this please.
I figured with all of these polls flying around, we might as well try and get a tally of where everyone wants to play while our ground is being built.

if the linc doesn't get a soccer team in there, at least temporarily, then I want my tax money back for building that damn thing. it sits there empty all summer when it could be earning some revenue. they are even having concerts at Citizens Bank Park during the Phillies season (bon jovi this year) while the linc sits silently across the street

The Linc does seem like an aweful waste of space, doesn't it?
BTW The Linc is leading by a LARGE margin.

Don't worry, it's cool. I love paying lots-O-Tax dollars toward a stadium that sits empty 350 days of the year. Warms my heart.

I love the Linc. Location, lack of summertime use, state of the art facility, has been successfully tested as a venue for pro soccer. That's my vote.

the Linc has a narrow pitch. If you like attacking straight-forward soccer, you will like watching games there. Finesse and speed and the short-passing game tend to go along with bigger pitches. Hold out for a SSS.

-snip-Hold out for a SSS.
We will, there is going to be one in Glassboro, NJ in 2009. Thanks for the encouragement though.

Last I remember seeing, San Jose played a decent style of soccer on a narrow pitch, and my favorite team have never been accused of having a large pitch, but they play some decent passing. Its the team, not the stadium.

Franklin field is only a 4 minute walk from where I'm at now but I voted for the Linc. Not being used plus from what I've seen its a quality place to watch soccer.

The Linc is a good soccer venue, but as noted earlier in this thread, it's a substantially narrower pitch than most of the MLS grounds, with the exception of Houston and RSL. It's the only stadium in this discussion that can handle a major sports franchise, on and off the pitch.

Article today in the Daily says that the Linc and 'Nova said no ("we're too full already") and that FF is the leading candidate.

I think its the worst of the three to watch soccer. With a maze of lines on that turf. The turf is good for football i guees, but not for soccer. Parking is a cluster-f.
The only good thing is we have good places to get a beer before the game. (i.e. Brownie's, etc.)

Have you looked at the Linc's schedule? Not exactly packing them in . . .
http://www.lincolnfinancialfield.com/calendar/
. . . even if you include Celtic playing there July 16 at 4 pm vs a South American team.
See http://www.celticfc.net/newsroom/news.aspx?id='2006-06-02_1206pc'
July 12: v DC United, Washington (7.30pm local time)
July 16: Match TBC v South American opposition, Philadelphia (4pm local time)
July 19: v New England Revolution, Boston (7.30pm local time)

Banner's an idiot. Don't tell me that you'd like to have an MLS team...if you wanted one, there'd have been one years ago. This is just b.s. to placate the pols since they included revenue for projections when they wanted state and city money for the Linc. And really, how hard would it be to schedule some matches in say September and October? Its not as if the field couldn't take it, afterall fields all over Europe get played on a whole lot more often than the Linc does. And can someone please explain how an MLS team would cause problems in say oh, May, June, July??? I call BULLSH!T!!!
Also, as someone mentioned somewhere else, FF would be a cool temp place, especially with only one open end, there wouldn't be empty seats down at the other end. That said, I do realize that the turf is not optimal.

Oh I know, I'm just stating that FF wouldn't be first on my list, if I had a choice. Obviously I don't, so if they play there, I'll be there.
