I was just wondering if anyone here happens to know if they are related to any important historical figures. I personally am related to Robert E.Lee and Jesse James.

My sister just got married and her new husband is related to Ben Franklin.

My family are direct decendents from the McCoy's of the famed or infamous McCoy v Hatfield feud.

I'm descended from a Col. Thomas Shortall, who appears to have been a part of Cromwell's invasion of Ireland in 1650, who is supposed to have family ties to King Edward (Longshanks, I think - the notes are not clear). I am also directly descended from John Garvey, the Archbishop of Armaugh, Lord Primate of All Ireland in the Church of Ireland (died 1592).

My dad is really into this stuff. Apparently we're descended from a King Olaf of the Isle of Man. That's about it really.

My friend is 72nd grandson of Confucius. It is not about maybe, possible, etc. He has a family tree book that recording every single generation. Due to the important status of Confucius in Chinese history, every empire respects their family and their family book is well maintained. How they do it? Well, there is a book to contain an article that have like 1000 characters, then every generation will use one character as their middle name, then everyone has a different givin name. So the family name identify you are offspring of Confucius, the middle name identify which generation you are in. So a simple 1000 characters you can go for 1000 generations.

My own family tree was back to the king of China 1500 BC, but the family tree book isn't maintained as good as my friend's. :p

That is pretty damn cool.

I know that my family tree has its roots in England, however my ancestors came over in the 1600's and we have been in America ever since. I have ancestors that fought on both sides of the Revolution in the US, pretty much every war we have been in until WWII. My great Grandfather was a Rough Rider with Teddy Roosevelt, we have an authenticated picture of a group of them with Teddy and my Great Grandfather in the pic.

I think Family history is very important and find it cool to hear about people with famous relatives.

Well, if religion is to be taken literally, I'm a direct descendant of Aaron, making Moses my uncle.

Yeah, but the god from whom I descended is Odin, and my god could beat up your god.

Foos would own the both of them. Bow down now and save yourself the conquering. Besides, we throw a wicked victory party, it would be a shame if you guys didn't survive to do keg stands.

On topic: I believe I have some relation to a Native American cheif, but I don't recall the tribe or his name (it's been more than a decade since I last saw information about my geneology).

Zebulon Pike (guess which mountain he named ;)) and John Greenleaf Whitter, both on my father's side, are all that I know of. My namesake ancestor landed in Salem, Mass in the 1630s but it seems that his descendants were pretty consistent about keeping a low profile. My mother's family are all Russian and Romanian Jews, and I don't think much information past the living elders survived the crossing. However, my mother did used to brag about having one first cousin in Moscow, Russia and one in Moscow, Idaho. Does that count for anything?

Dude, your God hangs out with crows and poked out his own eye. He's a few fjords shy of a lake.

Now Thor on the other hand - there's a Norse God. Plus, he knows Iron Man, and robots are cool.

I am related to world-fameous internet poster "spejic".

Before WWII, no written records were kept of this kind of thing in my parent's villiage in Bosnia. When my mother's sister wanted to marry someone with the same last name, they had to consult some old people who had to figure out - from memory - if their relations were split far back enough for them to get hitched.

But going by how one of my younger brothers looks like, I'm sure there was some rampaging Mongol that got into the family tree somewhere a long time ago.

My great-great-great grandmother was kidnapped by native americans, and she wrote everything that happened to her in a book. She was with them for 3-4 years before she was let go.

Most people have famous relatives if they look hard enough. Successful individuals bread more successfully in the past making it more likely their offspring would survive. The issue for many is finding the documentation to prove it.
