Oh well, this will go on till he is sold or stays, I guess.

that's beside the point, any player would be unhappy to be benched. This is a big club and you're expected to do certain things for the benefit of the club. With this it seems like Ruud only wants to fullfill his own desires, not that of the club.

What wasnt he doing that wasnt benefiting the club? Scoring goals for the club isnt enough? Hes a striker, what else do you want him to do exactly?

All he wanted to do was play. Its not like he was out of form.

Ive already conceded that Ruud is gone, but whats going to stop this from happening with the new midfielders we get? The person we get to replace Ruud?

You're right, in that situation most players would be upset...but the right reaction is to fight for your place back not sit and sulk.

Which is precisely what the manager expected of him, imo.

Are you saying that it is inherently wrong of Ferguson to experiment with formations and combinations that don't involve van Nistelrooy? If not, there's your answer - Ruud apparently does think so.

Can we clarify when he got all the goals?

I had though he scored a lot earlier in the season, but was not so hot later?

Then of course he was on the bench....

TBF to everyone, all Utd strikers have suffered lack of service in the crunch games.

Lead by example. Give others a chance to play. Not start fights with 21 year old Portuguese wingers. Respect the managers decisions.

That makes sense. But I still think its wrong. Lets see if Fergie decides to test any other players mettle.

Maybe you missed the point, so let me break it down for you:

We're in a transition period --> that leads to experimentations with different players.

Upon Saha's return, Ferguson thought it would be wise to partner him and Rooney, and guess what it worked out very well. We played much faster, smoother and we scored like there's no tomorrow. Rooney, Park and Ronaldo were given much more liberty and were able to use their talents to our advantage.

Apparently, Ruud didn't want to make this sacrifice, as a professional, you'd think he'd know that these kinds of things are normal, even when he was on top form. He insisted on sulking and sulking and with that attitude, I'm not surprised Ferguson was turned off.

Yes, he has cooled off a bit in the second half, but then he's gotten far fewer starts as well. He was still playing quite well though prior to the FA Cup against Liverpool, so for that to have convinced SAF that Ruud had lost something... well it seems strange to me.

Again, just to know, do we actually have proof that Ruud is/was sulking at being dropped from the squad? Besides what the rags say, of course.

Ruud should have acted like a professional senior player and if he was not happy say so and ask for a transfer.

nah, but like with everything else, we're working with several tentative hypothesis here.

You could tell whenever they showed him sitting on the bench in various games, imo.

His body language and behaviour has not been 'normal' since the CC final. I don't think the rags have actually being mentioning it, I think it's there for all to see. Watch a game of his from before Christmas and one after February and it's not the same player.

Please keep this civil.

Ruud was sitting on the bench during the time when Saha recieved his turn, and didnt walk out. He went 6 games and didnt complain once. For someone who was benched because of his own managers mistakes (not getting midfield depth) thats pretty good. But he flipped this last game.

Im only saying that Ruud reacted as any other player would.

When Rooney complained about being played on the left to the public, Fergie didnt try and test him.

I think thats what happens when you get dropped after being the most inform striker in the league, for 6 games. You do lose sharpness.

Its very very strange how open Fergie has been about this. Talk of incidents in the week (a disturbing claim was made on Red Issue about an exchange from to Ronaldo but I cannot imagine Ruud doing something like that and if it was true anyway he'd surely be out of here by now (apparently happened yesterday.)

However, he mentioned talking to the directors about it. Its an odd thing to say.

When things aren't going his way, Ronaldo can be quite the baby!
