Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell admits the club still have work to do to eradicate pro-IRA songs from their away supporters' repertoire. Such songs were clearly audible during their defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle last weekend on live television.

Lawwell told the Scotland on Sunday that such behaviour was "unacceptable and offensive", adding that "last Sunday was embarrassing".

Religon and Politics have no place in football. These so called fans should be banned and made an example of.

This isn't having go at Celtic fans, I realise that, at Celtic Park at least, the chanting of sectarian and stupid Irish political songs has gone down but what have Celtic as a club done to stop that. Both OF clubs seem eager to take all the credit for this but I can't think of anything they've done to actually solve the problem. Any advances by either sets of suppoters seems to be despite the clubs and not becuase of them.

I'm not surprised but there are loads of reports about Celtic fans chanting IRA songs and causing trouble in Manchester. It's bad enough doing it usually, but even worse doing it in a city that the IRA have hit. Of course, it will be swept under the carpet and Celtic will play the usual victim card.

In actually I saw on three seprate occasions on Celtic TV of chanting pro IRA songs not to mention a couple of Irish flags with millita on them. Not supprised at all and again I reirate politics and relgion have no place in sports.

Just because of some bad seeds it doesn't make us a bad club. It just makes us the same as every other club in football. Contrary to most of what anti Celtic fans think these people are still the minority and shrink in size as the decades go by. Will we ever get rid of it entirly? No don't think so as seeds of hate are sown in the home and not on the pitch.

My point was, if you beleive that poilitics and religion have no place in football, for what reason do you support Celtic?

I presume you are an American of Irish descent who is either Catholic or would have nationalist leanings when it comes to Irish politics.

Whilst I'm not saying that you are a bigot, as long as people keep supporting Celtic/Rangers because they are Catholic/Protestant or nationalist/loyalist, you will always, always have problems at these clubs. And no matter what initiatives the clubs undertake or no matter how many times Bob Malcolm appears with Aiden McGeady at a charity do, as long as Rangers continue to promote themselves as a Protestant/Loyalist club and Celtic promote themselves as a Catholic/(Irish) Republican club (which both clubs certainly do), Catholics will support Celtic and Protestants will support Rangers and those who happen to be idiots will cause bother.

Both clubs know exactly what they have to do to stop the problem but neither club will do it as they will lose supporters and therefore income.

Do you not agree?

I agree to most of it but I think these idiots are the minority and not the majority but when you have such a large amount of supporters it does look like a majority espically when when the minority is larger than most supporters of other clubs.
As far as your assesement of me fair enough, I have been called worse. A bit on myself than I guess. Yes I am an American of Irish decent as well as Welsh, English, and French. Yeah I know pretty screwed up lol. I was actaully raised Protestant but once I was able to make up my own oppions I became Agnostic. So your probably scratching your head now wondering what the hell is a protestant supporting Celtic. Simply it does not come down to faith or politics. As a young lad of 12 at the time, I am 30 now I saw a vhs video, remeber this was back before the internet was what it is today and the only news we got about football was about the size of this paragrah and it was only for international play. It was a video of Celtic and ever since then I have been following there progress, thank god for the internet as my cable provider doesn't carry SPL games. I have been in love with the club ever since

I agree 100% clubs have had 100+ years futbol tradition despite whatever trend seems to be the norm theese days such as chanting IRA songs. It doesn't change the fact that this club had some sort of a tainted past wich we are all too familiar with, some things you just can't shake no matter how hard you try .

Take Latin America for example Argentina ; Rosario Central and Newell's Old Boy's 2 rival teams similar to Rangers/Celtic. In the very early 1900's Newell's tried to organize a charity match w/ Rosario for lepers, wich Rosario declined , Ever since then they have been reffered to as Canallas meaning stupid low-life's and Newells has been refered to as "La Lepra" meaning leperous. Both teams are very proud of their nicknames to this day .

Im using this example to give you all some perspective on getting accustomed to the IRA stuff. To me it is quite obvious that the IRA chant's may seem to have now been accepted by most of the fans wich I see it could being something to be proud of if not synonymous w/ the club and now formed some sort of tradition .
I'm of Scottish heritage myself but i could give a rat's a$$ about the Irish, the IRA,Catholisism,Protastant's christianity or Religion as a whole . I'm Athiest so ******** Religion..... Politics too.....

In short just support your damn team no matter what, if you wanna' complain go tell your mama' or someone that gives a shite , or better yet do a Malcom Galzer and buy the damn team and do whatever ya want with it.

szupport your team and be proud of em' fcuk anyone else....
