HUNGRY,HUNGRY, HIPPOS 6- England 2
T.S.F.(total swarming football) We have jelled as a team. Found our second keeper and never looked in doubt.
On the offensive side we played good through balls, played to open space, ran to open space, very good one touch passes, good runs.
Defensively we stood them up, stayed goal side, swept the ball out when need be and smothered most of their runs.
Their first goal was from 30 yds out and our starting keeper made a goofy mistake: He was too far up in the box and the lad* simply looped it over him. Their next goal was from a PK. Horrible call IMHO. Adam, our new second half keeper made the initial stop but the ball was soaking wet as it was misty, cold; miserable out.The ball slipped through his hands. Had he simply deflected it he would have made the save. But I can't complain as he played fantastic all day in the field and in goal. He even scored one before playing keeper.

Our Aryan Uberman, Sebastian had another hat trick and an assist or two. Zak and Trevor also put in a potato each.

One of our lasses got hit in the eye with a ball and temporarily lost vision in her left eye. She is O.K. now according to her mom.

*the lad- Austin, he used to play for me. One of my all time faves as a young man and a player. If they'd let me pick my own team I'd always take Austin. 20 minutes later in the second half he tore his ACL. The fields were in shit shape and we shouldn't have been playing. Crest fallen for him for sure.

Lost again. 3-1. I didn't get to help coach or see the whole match because I had to leave before the half. When I left we were even 1-1. Played fairly well enough to for a draw had we kept it up. But that wasn't the case. The good news though, little Edwin sank one for us. He had been close in the first two matches and now he has made good.

Eagles Win!!
We played down one man and still beat them 8-3!! This was an afternoon match and it was still miserable. The wind had kicked up by game time and a little more rain. The temp here never got above 48*'S. Brrr... We passed the ball and only a few lapses on the defensive end cost us. CJ, Connor and Alec hit their stride offensively scoring all of our goals. Neither team had subs and the boys played like they didn't even notice. Fun was had by all. Great result.

HIPPOS BEATEN 3-1 BY ENGLAND!
Horrible day for the 'Poes. England came prepared and they had the services of one young lady who was hereto fore committed to her school team until this weekend. She made the difference.

To be honest we never played up to snuff. Our mids were a little shaky most of the day.
Our exchange student Sebastian committed an own goal and then scored for us a bit later. Tough luck. he tried to clear the ball by heading it and it just didn't clear the cross bar.

2-2 Draw! Very happy with the draw although it should have been a win. We were up 2 nil with about 6 minutes when one of our little mates decide he didn't need to play fullback anymore. Sadly he was wrong. both gaols came from his deserted side. Oh well.

Lost 6-3. Not coaching in this one only spectating. What can I say. We are weak in the back and running a 2-3-2 is the reason. The talent level isn't there to use that formation. Depending on who we have back there there is almost always one player who doesn't do his job and expects the keeper to do all the work. Drives me nuts but I'm not the one making that decision.
We played flat from the get go. Hats off to our keepers they had little support. They did make several good saves each. Cam scored on a freekick from the top of the 16(18 in a full size game), Noah on a good run and even better through ball from Edwin, Edwin on a cross from Cam. 'Nuff said.

HIPPOS WIN 2-1!
Sloppy stand around day for the Hippos. We were watching most of the match. We won none the less. If it weren't for our German we would be in big trouble. He scored off a corner and off a good run and a through ball. We'll take it.

WE WIN 4-2!! Noah and Cam lit it up! Cam had a hat trick. ;D More later.

This is the team/coach that frustrated me so that I had to take a break from coaching. They played way to rough, tripping, elbowing, pushing, and didn't ever seem to get caught. As of this season they have toned it down a bit. Yesterday our guys moved the ball to well for any of that to matter anyway.

Hats off to Jared for unflinching tenacity and desire to learn the game. He literally gets better each week. Yesterday his ball control and passing set up many scoring chances and even got him an assist. Carson played, without a doubt, his best game for us as a defender. he stopped many a run and confounded their little superstar all day long. Carson likes to play on the side of the pitch near his family so he can joke with them while he is on the field. He was too busy yesterday to do that and I think he was very proud of the way he played. He is a big kid and doesn't like to run. So we told him to try to get set in the right position and he wouldn't have to run much. It paid off.

Noah could have had a hat trick himself if he had some more help. The key for us is to get Cam and Noah in the field together and not have one in goal and the other on the bench. So far this season it hasn't happened much. Yesterday they played most of the second half together. It all fell into place. Although he didn't assist Cam he was a threat on the other side and kept attacking.

Junior was the first touch on all three of Cam's goals and on Noah's also. Playing fullback he stopped many different runs and sent the ball to the mids or the forwards and then we scored from there. 4 assists from the back. Well done.

Mitchell played in goal for a bit and had several scoring chances himself. His attacking play needs to be mentioned here though. He continually kept pressure on the keeper. He just missed on a couple himself.

Through balls, good job carrying the ball, sound defense it was all there.

Hippos win 5-1!!
Again, T.S.F. 5 nil before they could regroup and get a decent chance. And that came with about 10 minutes left. Sebastian had another hat trick and Juan and Aaron* chipped one each.

*Aaron - Best all around match I've ever seen from him ever! And I've known/coached(off and on) him since he was 4. The first time he ever played for me he got on the pitch and cried for the entire time he was on the field. He plays left fullback. Today he so completely shut down one of my former players that he drove the lad to cursing fits. Later in the match we put Aaron up top to let him have a poke at a goal and he delivered.

feh! Not a good day. 5-2. We very nearly had to forfeit. We had two show up on time and the other four got there just before the ref was going to signal forfeit. CJ scored two and Alec made a couple of big saves. We actually scored on two through balls. Pleased about that.

Owls lose 8-0. Not a good day. I didn't get to coach, or even see, any of this one but I can say without a doubt we simply have no defense.
The formation, which I hate, is 2-3-2. And the 2 in the back almost always seem to expect our keepers to make all the plays.

4-4 HIPPOS play to a Draw

40 minutes of T.S.F. and 3-1 lead at the break... then it went down hill. We came out flat for the second half. I moved some kids(fullbacks) around to let them have a poke or two at a goal. Backfired. Thought we could stem the tide and didn't. Both sides seemed to be up and down. We scored 3 goals inside the first 20 minutes and looked to be on the way to a rout. We weren't. FEH! My bad. The kids fought all year long and I can't wait to get back with them in the Spring.

Oh well. Great season all around for us. We won the title 3 games ago anyway. UP THE HIPPOS!!

Eagles

Eagles fall 5-1 to Iceland. Sloppy play. The only bright spots were from the play of one of our keepers, Alec, who made several big stops when it was his turn in the pipes and CJ who scored a fantastic goal on a good cross and through ball from Ben and Aaron.

We have a lot to learn in the spring.

1-1 draw for the Owls. I actually got to run the show and it felt good. We matched up very well with this team and it showed. We beat them once this season I do believe. Cam got our only goal and we didn't have any subs so our side was very tired. I like to think we can build on this for the Spring but there will be a few boys playing school ball. We'll see...

The boys never quit, especially today, and I am very proud.
