Worth a shot, or is Wenger smoking crack again? (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=367249&cc=5901)

Discuss.

Well considering the speculation about Heskey being called up for the WC, it seems clear that the options are limited. I don't see Sven taking the gamble on Walcott, but he should.

Sven has been to see Walcott in training three times and in reserve team action three times, you never know what could happen. If walcott can get just a little game time in the next two and show something special he's certainly an outside bet.

England always take a young player with them, one who is for the future so they can get some experience with the team thought they are not part of the squad. Stuart Taylor went in 98 to France. Maybe Walcott will go in this capacity, but I don't see Sven taking him when he hasn't played any first team football since January and has never played in the top league.

I think Wenger is doing this to keep Walcott happy, since the kid isn't getting any games. It's very hard to beleive that a kid who can't get into a premier league game is gonna go the WC.

He probably would have featured by now if it wasn't for some injuries though. He can't be worse then Crouch and Heskey!

Stuart Taylor went in 1998??? And what of Seaman, Martyn, and Flowers? Where are you getting the Stuart Taylor info from?

I hate to say this, but having Walcott in the world cup is worse than having Freddy Adu in the America team.

Stuart Taylor may of been on holiday in France in 1998, but he certainly wasn't part of the England Squad. At that time he was in the Under 21 Squad, but he was not called up to the 1st Team Squad for the World Cup.

The three keepers were Seaman, Flowers and Martyn IIRC. Rio Ferdinand went along for the ride though.
