Sommeil was being a prick all match, and while Van Persie is a bit of a firebrand, I somehow doubt a man who plays on a team that's 3/4 black is much of a racist.
I do hate to see this sort of thing though. Let's hope it's all cleared up soon.

a racist and a rapist. what a lovely young bloke. i bet he fits right in over there.
the perfect example of all that "class" we heard so much about from arsenal fans in the wake of the highbury goal saga.

Rape, Racism plus an average season. We should get rid of him. He is staining Arsenal's well established tradition of being a respectful club. We don't need that! On top of that he had a crap game that day.

While watching the match I had a feeling this charge would be levelled.

Perhaps you could wait until all the facts are in before chiming in with your horsesheit.

Van Persie suffers racist abuse himself in this country, mainly due to his religion, so why would he be racist towards someone else.

Nice coming from a scumbag cheat like you Joe E
You'll see the difference in class by how The Arsenal deal with it if it's true.
What ever happened to that classy kerb crawler that was your manager?

Well OJ loves that quote. Besides what does the other bloke have to gain from all this? It's not like a rape charge. RVP is trouble and his skills are not like Cantona or Maradonna. Why do you think Feyenoord got rid of him so cheap? Let's sell him before he karate kicks a fan. We should try and get Torres instead. For that we need the CL!!!

Firstly, we don't even know this racial claim is true.
Secondly, if you followed the rape case, it was pretty obvious that it was not true, and he was proven not guilty.
Lastly, you honestly think he average? Sure, he hasn't been playing very well lately, but this guy is definitely not average...go on youtube.com and search for videos on Van Persie and see what you've some how missed.:o
No hard feelings mate;)

He was cleared of rape, and there is absolutely no background to this charge. Why get rid of him for what other people accuse him of? He's a hotheaded guy, but so was Gerrard back in the day. So were a lot of amazing players. Van Persie has loads of potential, and before his injury performed extremely well. What was it, 9 goals in 9 games? Something like that. That's not average. Since he's come back it's been rough going, but then if we release people for that, it's time to say goodbye to Reyes, Adebayor, Hleb, Campbell, etc.
Ignore the Spurs idiots and let the FA handle this. I think and hope that Robin will be cleared of this. He's a brilliant player and one of our best prospects up front.

Hell, I think one could handle it just as well as the other, don't you? I hope the FA doesn't get all conspiracy theory on us again with this.
Pearce added: "None of my players mentioned it to me at half-time or after the game.
Which is odd, because to begin with, I can't really imagin RVP abusing *anyone*, racially or otherwise. He's not exactly the most intimidating presence we have on the field, is he? I'd think that "you dirty northern c*nt" somehow seems less aggressive coming from him than, say, Sol. Or even Dennis "The Munchkin" Wise, for that matter.
Foo-foo.

Uh, I don't know about that. There was the whole "kick in the face" incident with FC Thun, and he gets pretty hotheaded. I'd actually say he's more of an emotional liability than most of the team. The guy gets worked up. But still, racism is a big step and I can't imagine it's true.

Van Persie is still young and quite good. Don't give up on him. The whole rape thing was cleared up.
I seriously doubt that he is a racists. Forget the whole thing about Black Dutch players on the Nats team....look at ARSENAL! We have to be one of THE most diverse clubs in Europe, if not the world. All quality...minus Cygan, sorry I had to. LOL.
What is this about his religion? Is he a Muslim, not that I care? Just curious. Why does it matter? Nobody cares about that in the footie world, if you can play that is what truly matters.

Actually I was wondering about that myself. I've heard religious taunts mentioned but never in detail -- I believe he's a Muslim convert, but I don't know if that's actually true.

VanPersie is Muslim.
He didn't make any racist remarks; if you watch the incident, you'll see him saying "I didn't say that" repeatedly when Sommeil is talking to the ref. At the half time whistle, VanPersie was chasing Sommeil, not vice versa which is what you would expect in this sort of situation. Further to that Sommeil didn't report this incident to anyone except for the referee, so perhaps he realised that he made a mistake.
The last thing that convinces me that he didn't make a racist remark is that Henry was right next to VanPersie when the alleged incident took place; as Henry is both black and French (like Sommeil) I'm sure that he would have re-acted to any derogatory comment that VanPersie made.
We'll have to see what comes of the allegation, but at the moment I'm convinced that Sommeil made a mistake and he realised that (otherwise I'd assume that he would have taken it up with his manager and team-mates, rather then just the ref in the moment the incident happened).
