Awesome. I love the Kinks. I figured Ray was spurs, as the pub across the street (clissold arms) from his childhood home up in Muswell Hill is a spurs pub. A fact I learned much to my chagrin on my last visit to London.

"Don't be afraid to come dancing, where the big bands used to play..."

Well, what a nice, heartfelt, well-written, piece! Proves me wrong, at least in this instance: not all rock stars/"musicans" are monosyllabic, imbecillic morons...
I especially like the remembrances and linkages of going to the games with his father.
An excellent find!

Roger Daltrey is a legend, but Ray Davies could probably write a better song.
Although a collaboration wouldn't be bad.

That would probably be a safe bet, i don't think Daltrey even wrote many of the Who's songs. I'm under the impression that Pete Townsend wrote almost all the songs. I might be wrong, though.

You are right in your assumption sir.

A Townshend/Davies song battle would be one hell of a pleasure to listen to.

Who v. Kinks five-a-side at the interval, anyone?

The Who and Kinks, 2 of the best rockbands ever. Townshend wrote 90% of the The Who's output, the bass player John Entwistle (RIP) wrote almost the rest. Daltrey is only credited on a couple of Who songs, but he admits he's not much of a songwriter, however he acts out Townshend's songs brilliantly on stage, and is a good filmactor as well, in theatres etc.
Daltrey is apparently singing tomorrow at Highbury (without Townshend I hear)
Davies of course, is also one of the most innovative songwriters ever, now touring on his own and has just released a new album which I havent heard yet. The Kinks also made some fantastic albums.
I read an interview with Daltrey in the early 90s, where he said that he got on very well with Ray Davies and wouldn't mind making an album with him one day. Oh, I wish they would.
Another great rock'n roll songwriter and Arsenal fan not mentioned here, is the father of Dark Side Of the Moon and The Wall:
Roger Waters!!!
