I want to preface my remarks by saying that I do feel blessed to live in Cleveland during these times. I have a pro team two hours away, a PSL side in Lakewood, the USMNT team is coming, and (knock on wood) there will be an MLS team here in less than two years. So I'm feeling goooood.

There seems to be the first movement of an organized soccer fanbase in Cleveland as like-minded soccer fans come out of the woodwork. I think maybe a meet and greet during the WC is in order. Some of us will meet at the Venezuela game, I but think it would be fun to watch these WC games with fans, fans who can drink at 10 in the morning.

Hard.

So I am proposing that we designate a bar, get together to watch the WC and slam some beers early on a work day. Parnells in Cedar-Lee works for me of course, but I am willing to travel to accomodate the greater good.

Who's in?

If I can coordinate my workday around it, I'm there.

Some Irish Bar, the name of which I can't remember. On a whim, Im guessing it starts with an O.

A little help... now to schedule the day off.

And thank you, USA, for allowing me to be one of a special few that care for soccer so that I can schedule World Cup days off and not have to worry about competing for spots with other people in my department!

Maybe the Old Angle Tavern (1848 W 25th). Other spots around town, as mentioned in the After Dark column in this morning's PD:

Der Braumeister (13046 Lorain Rd), Inn Between (8684 Ridge, N Royalton), Becky's (CSU area, E 18th), and Trattoria on the Hill restaurant (12207 Mayfield, Little Italy).

Add to that, in Akron, the New Era (Massillon Road near Market St, Serbian owned... so don't wear that Croat jersey no matter how cool those checkers are).

Well, we now know now the Old Angle is not a soccer bar, thanks to ARWIII. And I am not sure the USA is the top priority in Little Italy. Brook had said his soccer teams goes to this little bar in Strongsville, so I can only assume they are meeting there for the games.

Maybe we should just all stay home Saturday and medicate ourselves with a sixpack and a sheet over our head. I will be surprised if Channel 5 doesn't opt for infomercials Saturday afternoon. Little Italy might be the only ones up in arms, but they probably are watching via Univision anyhow. One Romance language isn't that far from another. And Uni is respectful enough to show the anthems.

This is becoming a domestic soccer nightmare. :(

Parnells was bouncing. Great atmosphere (for an poor game) Probably close to 80 people (its a small bar) I would be there Saturday (going to wedding in Shreveport, LA. Anyone recommend a bar there?)

Locally, I think Parnells is recognized as the premier sports bar on the east side. I showed up at 10 and there were already US fans at the bar (plus three Aussie fans. At least they were happy, especially when everyone in the bar bought them shots)

So there it is. Eastside WC viewing should be done at Parnells unless you have a 62 inch flat screen and a keggerator.

Are they going to continue this sort of viewing post-world cup? i'd love to have a place to watch some games if i knew there would be support in number... (even though i live in medina)

I don't what there would be support for. I know the owner will open his doors early if someone can promise 20-30 people for a sporting event, usually Ireland related. However, I know he does Eurocup and other big matches. World Cup will probably always be the biggest draw. But soccer does take priority there, you can almost always get the game on, especially if you call ahead.

I hate to admit it, but I was part of that group of rowdy fans who were singing "Real American" by Hulk Hogan before kick off.

The singing of the Star Spangled Banner was excellent as well.

I missed the Hulk song. Sorry. By 12:00 I was bagged.
