Milestone University Investments, LLC., a subsidiary of The Milestone Group, is looking to bring either an expansion or relocated MLS franchise to alternative venues in Philadelphia in 2007 and 2008 while a soccer-specific stadium is built, according to a proposal the company submitted to Rowan University. The proposal projects a $16.5 million price tag for the franchise.

"It is anticipated that the team will play at Lincoln Financial Field, Franklin Field, Villanova University or a similar venue, giving the team immediate identity and presence in Philadelphia," the proposal states.

WOW!!!!

Woww! I guess Real Salt Lake is in more trouble than thought, either way the faster they can get a footprint here the better.

That is incredible news!

And a scoop for the Gloucester County Times!

I would think the chances would be greater for an expansion club, but it's also good leverage for the folks in SLC, and KC to get thier act together.

Though if they do need to setup for a couple of seasons, they ought to make it someplace convienient to Glassboro. If they put in in Villanova, then they'll essentially be relocating when they move to South Jersey. The Linc seems like a decent alternative if the price is right.

Franklin Field was mentioned by Garber in his MLS Super Draft interview with the Inquirer back in January.

My guess is that the Linc would be the most expensive option.

Holy guacamole!

The powers that be are gathering at a rapid pace. I can't imagine them playing anywhere but the Linc...It makes the most sense IMO. I am sure if this isn't something Lurie is directlyinvolved in, he will make it as expensive as humanly possible...but if only for 2 years, then so be it...

Wow.

Wow, I can't even describe how happy that would make me. Which is why I don't believe it.

Well we will all know for sure in July. Good or bad.

Bring back the Pennsylvania Stoners!!!! I know they weren't in Philly, and they were only an ASL team, but still . . . that had to be one of the best pro sports team names ever. I still have my Stoners pennant autographed by Matt Bahr.

Wow.

It'll be economically worth it to pay Lurie off for a year or two in order to develop roots on the Philly side of the river before moving to Glassboro

I'd say wait until July, then do it.

To be realistic here for a second, has there been a comment from MLS on this?

I do have to admit I would feel awful about taking someone's team.

Seems as though people have been reading the board/doing market research by making it plain they want/need to establish Philadelphia presence. Cool deal. Now just don't make the primary team color red and we're all good.

How about Red Currant like the Gunners are wearing this year? With a change kit of sky blue or yellow.

Too many red teams already.

It's light blue for you.

Here's an interesting question:

So many of us support either Metro or United... how easy will it be for you to transition from your surrogate team to your real hometown team? It's going to be interesting to see how I react, I've had some good times at RFK.

Yes they told me, quote, "The current plan is to work with Rowan during their exclusive negotiating period. Our goal is to have an MLS team in the Philadelphia area by 2009."

What does that mean? I have no clue.

I think he means for 2007, whether they are relocating or giving us an expansion...

Now I'm confused... so MLS may decline this whole playing by 2007 thing??

Fact:
The proposal from Milestone to Rowan and MLS states that they will have a team in the Philly market starting in 2007.

Fact:
MLS has stated they are focused on helping Rowan and Milestone build a stadium and have a team in the Philly market by 2009.

My take:
These facts do not contradict. But MLS is saving face by saying BY 2009.
