Attempting diplomatic niceties as he was saying goodbye, the emir, Sheik Hamad bin-Khalifa al-Thani, congratulated his host on Iran's fine soccer team and said he hoped it would bring pride to all the "Arab Persian Gulf" region during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Not missing a beat, Ahmadinejad shot back:
"I believe you called it the Persian Gulf when you studied in school," he said in a pointed reference to the emir's education at Sandhurst Military Academy in England, once the colonial ruler of much of the Arab world.
Seemingly unfazed, the emir fired Monday's final volley: "By the way, the Gulf belongs to all."
I have to give this round to Ahmadinejad, though he's clearly never read "How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Ben is just bitter that something is named after the Persians/Iran legitimately. I guess some Jews make a habit of putting a name they want, illegitimately, on something that doesn't belong to them.

I am not bitter and have no opinion about whether the gulf should be called the "Persian Gulf" or the "Arabian Gulf." Persians call it the Persian Gulf, Arabs insist it is the Arabian Gulf. I suggest that Hebrew University should host a conference to examine this question.

You mean like using names that precede Islamic and Arabic ones by countless CENTURIES. Ok.

I appreciate that you feel very strongly about this subject, but Arabs also have a great deal of pride. As a humanitarian and lover of peace, I suggest a peaceful solution. I call it the "Two-Gulf solution." One half the gulf should be called the "Arabian Gulf" while the other half will be the "Persian Gulf." The UN can be responsible for partitioning the Gulf.

For the sake of peace, we must move beyond our prejudice against Arabs. Of course they are a proud people! I fail to see how any reasonable person could be against my two-Gulf solution.

Actually I think armanass misunderstood the statement. To me it reads that the Emir was speaking about the Arab/Persian Gulf Region referring to the arab nations that border the Gulf. It seems to me that armanass took it as a personel affront and maybe it upset his view for his mainfest destiny.

actually I think he got exactly what the Arab guy meant and hit with a punch line reminding him that he is only a British puppet that has everything including his education from British... you guys might hate Ahmadinejad but he sure is a tough nut to crack and doesn't take shit from anybody!
Arab’s are taking advantage of the political situation with Iran’s nuclear program, it is almost like they are blackmailing Iran that if we want their support we should turn a blind eye to their comments and action towards Persian gulf and those ever Iranian islands that UAE wants… the problem is Ahmadinejad has found the way to counter this, he knows he doesn’t really need approval from Arab leaders all he needs is Arab ppl so with each anti-Israel speech he recruits new fans all over the Arab world…
The fact of the matter is Persian gulf Arab nations are useless entities that only survive by being a strategic whore for Western powers so it is evident that no matter what they say, they will betray us when the conflict starts… that is why Iran looks into East for reliable ties and the recent ECO meeting was a very fruitful one…

Yes, probably the main motive of his controversial statements showing his blatant total antizionism.
