So there is a poll in the EPL forum about who is the fastest player in the league is. There was no mention of Henry so I said his name and there were several people who claimed that he is not that fast. Ive always thought he had amazing pace and might be one of the fastest footballers in the world. What does everyone thing?

P.S. someone on there said that Bergkamp was a faster sprinter than Henry.

Eboue and Clichy might run faster in a straight line than Henry, but not with a ball at their feet.

DB10? no way

Bergie used to be pretty quick, doubt he was ever faster than Henry though. And yes, I would definitely say Eboue is fast, even with a ball at his feet.

Thinking of it, Eboue is super fast. Damn.

Henry is one of the fastest off of the ball easily; the fatsest is Rommedahl. His acceleration isn't as great as some other players though; for instance Kolo and Ljungberg are faster then him over the first five yards.

One or two players are faster with the ball at their feet.

Henry has the acceleration of a sprinter and is incredibly fast. No way that DB10 is, or ever was, as quick or fast as Henry. Maybe as quick mentally.

I always wondered why there are not times on the players. Like in the NFL, all the players have a 40 yard time. They do beep tests and stuff, it would just seem at some point they would time these guys in something. Maybe like 20 meters or 50 meters or somewhere in-between.

Because that crap doesn't matter when you have a ball at your feet. I wasn't the fastest person on my team, but I was fast enough to beat anyone with a ball at their feet. What I want to know is why so much emphasis is put on the numbers in the NFL.

Maybe because they don't have the ball at their feet?

Unless, of course, you're referring to a grubber kick..but that's the original iteration of the NFL, way back when, pre-Walter Camp et al.

The American sports media is stat-happy. Watch any American sport, and it is stat after stat after stat. I think it is a way for the sportscasters to try and show how much they know about everything related to that sport. Watch a Prem match, not so much. A few stats maybe, and that is it. They tend to just comment on the game and don't feel the need to constantly be talking, which is nice.

It is too damn hot in my office today. Been grouchy all afternoon.:o

Oh, I like hearing some stats...49 Premiership games unbeaten, 10 CL cleansheets, that sort of thing :D

can't recall where i read this, but i remember wenger saying something along the lines of thierry being fastest at the sprints in training. apparently kolo was the second-fastest.

this was a year or two ago, before eboue had arrived. fwiw, henry still seems damn fast to me. though if i was a betting man, i'd probably wager walcott as having the fastest wheels.

ive heard comments that walcott has a quicker acceleration than henry but henry does him over a longer distance

well considering that the media always bring up his uncle, who was a hurdler, i think he might not be the best 200m runner but over 20m he is damn quick.

anyone who watches him cant disagree that his game speed is one of the fastest.

The key is that the man can dribble, stop, dribble some more, turn, run and make shots and passes that are superhuman. I'll take TH14 over any striker in the game.

Cisse is ridiculously fast. I don't think he's the greatest striker, but holy crap can he run.
