Need help making a decision- American backpacking around the world and I happen to be in London during the Champions League Final. I am a huge Arsenal fan, but I don't expect to be able to afford tickets to the final, is it worth it go to soak up the atmosphere in Paris, or will it be just as good in North London?
If I stay in London, any recommended Arsenal pubs?
Thanks in advance

Paris would be best, but transport from the UK for these few days has gone through the roof, with the £100 pound flights we booked 6 weeks ago, now selling for nearly £500!. ferry and train to paris will be alot cheaper
If you decide to stay in London, any of the pubs around Blackstock rd (Arsenal or Finsbury park tube) will be fine, The Gunners, Arsenal Tavern, 12 pins, woodbine, bank of frendship are all good Arsenal pubs, and if we win it you'd be a fool not to be in the area.
Me? i'll be in Paris :)

Do you have tickets to the game or are you going to the area around the Stade de France to watch on a big screen or something? Or a bar in central Paris?
It does sound more exciting heading to Paris... Anyone carpooling?

No contest. YOU GO TO PARIS FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT MATCH IN ARSENAL'S 120 YEAR HISTORY AND BE WITH LIKE-MINDED PEOPLE.
You can buy a 5-day return rail/ferry ticket for £72 from www.rail-canterbury.co.uk
It leaves from Charing Cross to Dover, Ferry to Calais, bus to Boulogne, Train to Paris.
And when you get there on the day of the game to the Eiffel Tower at midday and enjoy one of life's magic moments.

Paris is fantastic. I would go even if Arsenal weren't playing because I love the city.

Paris is a shithole and I said after '95 I would only ever return if The Arsenal were there and I've been true to my word.

No kidding, if you are going to Europe to watch the final, go to where it will be played and the fans are. I would imagine there are going to be tons of people there without tickets, watching the match and going nuts.

I bet you'll be able to get a ticket much chaeper than you think. The key is to wait as long as possible before buying. At a certain point scalpers become concerned about being stuck with the product.

I enjoyed a "magic moment" there in 2003 when I peed on the Eiffel Tower itself.
Much as I tried, I couldn't get anyone to take a photo for me. :(

I've just heard from a man,who knows a man, that deals with this sort of thing, that Arsenal tickets are selling for £1000 at the moment.
Good Luck.

i would definitely advise you to head to paris if you were in the area...
it is also a good excuse to do some sight seeing there as well, so its 2 birds with 1 stone...
i imagine the atmosphere would be just as good in highbury, but just being there when it happens... will just be magical!

As someone who's attended a CL Final, as a neutral no less, the atmosphere in the city is amazing. I'd jump at this in a heartbeat. Both sets of supporters will be in good spirits, and if its anything like the last final in Milan, there will be parties at all the big areas of the city.
And really, if you can't find anywhere to sleep, I'll gaurantee that Gare du Nord will be packed with Gooners waiting for a train (as Milan was when I was there) so it will be safe, just find a good slab of marble!
