View Full Version : Transferring tickets in person

Maybe I'm being really stupid, but I just want to make sure that I understand the ambigious FIFA-speak on transferring tickets.

I'm travelling out with an 'applicant' who has a ticket for himself and one for his mate that can't go. What do I need to do to get the other ticket transferred to my name? Obviously I need to apply to FIFA and then go to one of the ticketing centres when there's no game on to exchange the tickets, but what do I need to bring?

A letter from the person who couldn't travel?
A copy of their passport?
Proof of power of attorney? (What exactly does this amount to? A letter from a solicitor, or is the letter from the original guest sufficient?)

The FIFA site talks about 'orderers', but it's not clear whether this means me, the original guest, or the applicant.

Celtic,

I wouldn’t trust FIFA to do the transfer in person. That is just going to complicate matters for you.

Did your friend get the tickets from the website or from a broker? If he got them through the website, then have him apply for the transfer and chose "family" as the reason. It has a very high success rate.

Otherwise, I would call FIFA's Ticketing Centre at 011-49-1805-646264 (the 011 is when dialing from the US) and talk to them. They will give ALL the details you need.

If all else fails, just got to the match and walk in like it's your own ticket. We have done the math here at bigsoccer.com and it is estimated that only 10% of people entering the stadiums will be checked for i.d. If you are one of the 10%, just leave and go to another gate. Otherwise, the ticket alone should be fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.

I was intending to apply on the website and use 'family', as that has already worked for me with previous transfers. What I mean by transferring in person is that we will have to go to a ticket centre and change them, as we already have the tickets in our hands. My query was, what do I need to bring with me to physically exchange them?

If all else fails, as you say, I'll take the chance at the turnstiles!

You need the following...
1...His match ticket.
2...Your passport.
3...The confirmation email that the ticket transfer is successful.

Where did you get this info? What about "attorney stuff" FIFA mentions in their guidline?

Yep, that what confuses me. Those three things are not a problem, but if I have to get legally-drafted letters, I'll just take a cahnce that I won't be ID-checked! A solicitor will charge me £50 for writing a 100-word letter.

From the CSS:

"If you have already received your tickets or if your tickets have already been printed at the time of the application for a transfer or are already in the post, you must exchange the tickets received before entering the stadium at one of the twelve Stadium Ticket Centers of FIFA World Cup 2006™.
This is only possible in the Stadium Ticket Centers in question on days without a game. The tickets already sent to you are blocked for entry by transfer to other persons.

Only the orderer or a person authorised by him in writing is entitled to exchange the old ticket against the one issued for the new spectator. The orderer must be able to prove his identity. An attorney must produce not only the power of attorney and the ticket to be replaced, but also a copy of the orderer's identity card or passport.

If, when buying the tickets, you are asked to collect your tickets at the Stadium Ticket Center, you will automatically be given the tickets transferred to another person upon collection."

Yep, the only question left: Who the heck "Orderer" is? Original applicant? Original guest? New guest?

My guess would be original applicant because that person paid :D

You're probably right...so what exactly is 'power of attorney?' A letter drfted by a solicitor?

I'm no lawyer, but what I am going to do is get a template like this:

http://financialplan.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ilrg.com%2Fforms%2Fpowatrny.html

...adapt the language to the situation, and send it along. Just make sure the scope is restrictive or your fellow applicant may be empowered to change your cable service or pull the plug should you be medically incapacitated. :)

Do you think it's possible to go to any "Stadium Ticket Center" to exchange your ticket, or would it need to be the one at the stadium where your game will be played? Is there info on the Stadium Ticket Centers on the FIFA website?

As I understand it, you need a letter (plain) from the "orderer" authorizing you to use the ticket plus a copy the orderer's ID, e.g. passport or driver's license.

And you need to take the ticket and letter etc. to one of the stadia on a non-game day at that stadium.

Thanks. That helps. So I need the original tickets, copy of the original orderer's passport, and a signed letter from the orderer. Then go on a non-match day to the stadium ticket office. I wonder if the open days and open hours for the stadium ticket shops are posted somewhere? Are they open on Sundays? I didn't see it on the fifa website.

Not sure where I found this but they are open from 11:00 to 19:00 each day of the tournament.

I just applied for a transfer myself. In the e-mail I got immediately after, it said that:
"If you have already received your tickets or if your tickets have already been printed at the time of the application for a transfer or are already in the post, you must exchange the tickets received before entering the stadium at one of the twelve Stadium Ticket Centers of FIFA World Cup 2006™. On the day of a match and at the Stadium where it is taking place you may only collect tickets for this specific match.

So it looks like you CAN do a in-person transfer if you already recieved printed tickets before you applied for the transfer, ON game day, AT the stadium. (But only for that specific game.) Right?
