I did not see it here, so here it is:

Goalkeepers: Marcus Hahnemann (Reading), Tim Howard (Manchester United), Kasey Keller (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Fulham), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Cory Gibbs (ADO Den Haag), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Eddie Lewis (Leeds United), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege), Eddie Pope (Real Salt Lake)

Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley (PSV Eindhoven), Bobby Convey (Reading), Clint Dempsey (New England Revolution), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), John O'Brien (Chivas USA), Ben Olsen (D.C. United), Claudio Reyna (Manchester City)

Forwards: Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Brian McBride (Fulham), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Josh Wolff (Kansas City Wizards).

I noticed most of the defenders are from europen leagues, does arena want more experienced defenders from europe to handle the europen attackers of czechs and italy?

also it will be interesting to see what eddie johnson can do, doesn he have 7 goals in 8 caps?

Crap. Wolff and Pope on the team. That hurts.
Pope is always getting beat on defense.
Wolff has no ability to cross the ball... but then 99% of US players can't cross the ball. I don't think they practice crosses. They practice getting to the corner with the ball and then passing it to the defensive guy 10 ft away.

hahah. Sadly, it seems to be true.

Wow, this thread makes some of the dumbest stuff in the USMNT forum looks brilliant by comparison.

Much more calm and sane here, Johnson now has 9 goals in 17 caps, i think, just so you could know.

The only justification for Ching is height (he's taller than Twellman, and Rolfe, the only other apparent contenders) and his hot streak in the MLS in April (4 goals in one game, and 1 apiece in two others). Twellman strikes me as far more likely to snatch a lucky goal in the box than Ching having any impact of any sort. Kinda bizarre decision to me.

Conrad over some of the other guys was a bit weird, but I imagine because Conrad's younger, a great lockeroom presence and could handle being benched better than Berhalter could. Olsen's a bit strange, but like Conrad, he's a great presence in the lockeroom, a leader and fighter who isn't intimidated by anyone and was a terrific player who appeared on the way to the EPL with Nottingham or via Transfer several years ago before the devastating leg/ankle injury happened.

Overall, pretty conservative roster, and yes I'm sick of Wolff too, 1 goal in the run of play in his last 22 matches for the US National team, and most of those games were against horrible to mediocre concacaf sides. I think he's just a comfort thing, with his knowledge of how to apply Arena's preferences and strategies and while no skill at finishing it seems, he still is very good finding openings in defenses and making runs that free up other players.

Still, we all knew we'd advance, or not based on our top 15 or so players, we don't have a deep bench because the youths who played in '01 and '03 WYC's have almost uniformally not made strong enough inroads since fast starts. Guys like Buddle, Mapp, Gaven, Johnson and Twellman simply have not left their imprint on anything in terms of the international level as they were hoped to do. This will change in the next cycle because a ton of these guys will be gone.

I was hoping for Twellman over Ching, but at least Ching is on fire ATM. Hopefully that will continue into the WC. I'm also very glad to see Dempsy got picked. I think he brings a unique element to the table. He is a trouble maker and every team needs someone like him.

I don't get it... Arena must be seeing something that a simpleton like me just doesn't get. If I was an opposing player, Twellman would be infinately more scary to play against than Ching, the way they've both been playing the last year.

Ching plays like his feet grow roots. Twellman's a cocroach on meth (he reminds me of Schillaci from WC '90).

He is on fire.. in the MLS. They guys a great MLS player, no doubt, but every time he's stepped on the field in a National Team game to this point he's been totally outclassed.

Just my opinion... hope I'm wrong.

Save the Norway and Japan games, you could say the same about Twellman.

I disagree.. he missed some gimme's in the other games, but he was still non-stop motion and a ball-magnet in the Penalty area.

Not really, Trindad and Tobago and one Mexico game, plus he helped in the Poland game with little to no service for him in Johnson.

Wow. The guy can't even make the roster for the US, and you're comparing him to the guy at Italia '90 who's only the second player in history to win both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the same tournament?

I can't imagine how good the actual squad is.
