As England now have doubts over Rooney and Owen, I think the sartorial swede should turn to Marvellous Marlon and get him on the plane to Germany.
He and Darren Bent must surely come into calculations. I just think that Marlon with his pace, strength and explosive finish could really do a job for England.
Who else could Sven use? Crouch? Too limited and everyone knows that all we would do is kick the long ball up to him.
Phillips...........nah
Defoe, whilst it sticks in my throat, he could form a very dangerous partnership with Harewood.
Beattie......maybe
Vassell................nah
Bent and Harewood that would be my pick with Defoe as the 3rd striker.
Go for it Marlon!!!!:D

i think marlon should be 3rd choice.
defoe is a blackhole. bent can at least hold the ball up and has breakaway speed. crouch has been discussed endlessly so we all know what he brings.
i think it will be owen, rooney, harewood, crouch and bent. defoe will miss out. if rooney doesnt go it all doesnt matter as england will be fcuked.
in conclusion. harewood>defoe.

Personally I don't think England will win the Cup anyway. 1/4 finals will be their limit. I don't like the reliance on Rooney though. Yes he is a good player but I don't think England need him to be successful.

harewood is the goods, but england won't replace rooney by adding him. they'll go to a single front runner and make joe cole more central to their plans.

I would think there is only 1 place for an "untried" striker and Sven will give Bent the nod over Marlon unfortunately

The trouble with ditching injured players and bringing in other match fit strikers to replace them is it requires an ounce of common sense, which Sven doesn't have. Let alone the balls to try someone new.
Apparently SGE is going to take Rooney, injured or not, on the off chance that he may get to play one match toward the end, say maybe the quarter or semi final.
IMV to win the World Cup England need that extra bit of magic which only seems to arrive through unexpected means like, e.g., bringing in a second or third favourite player to replace the current superstar. Every now and again we see that player have the game of his life. Remember Geoff Hurst was only playing in the '66 final because Jimmy Greaves was injured. It was as if it were fate.
But how can fate be allowed to prosper the England team when SGE keeps stopping it by, e.g., taking injured players instead of fit ones?
History dictates that England will not win the WC unless they have at least three West Ham players in the team. Sven has a chance to do that with Rooney, Owen, Terry and King all doubtful, but I doubt he will take that chance. An Englishman would recognise this and take the chance.
Ashton, Harewood, Konchesky and Ferdinand will win the WC for England, otherwise forget it.

If Rooney and Owen are both unfit, then for Sven to take them is sheer lunacy.......but hey why does he care, he leaves as soon as England are out of the Cup. I really believe that Harewood could be an 'ace' for England if Sven has the balls to take him.
If Rio, Cole and Lampard play and England win the Cup then I think West ham can still lay claim to the requirement of 3 Hammers to lift the trophy!!

Harewood for England, now that's funny, whilst I like Harewood he's no where near England standards, with your International team you want the very best of your countrymen to represent you and Marlon isn't one of the countries best.
If were to play Harewood than we might as well play Bullard in midfield. :D

Hareewood? lol, I'd take Ashton before I'd take Harewood.
I actually consider playing J. Cole centrally as a support striker/no. 10 type player.

One needs to look at goals scored by Englishmen in the Premier League surely as some sort of guide.
The 2 top english strikers are Bent and Harewood. Rooney and Lampard are both up there but neither of them are out and out strikers and both play for very powerfull EPL teams where the likelihood of getting goals is very high. Bent and Harewood play for middle table teams and both produce the goods.

We may be "International", but your lot are pretty much "uni-national" (or whatever the spanish word is for that).

as much as England want rooney to play... if he can't play untill the quarters or semi final, then sven should not take him,,, Harewood should get that spot on the team,,, he could do alot of good. My country didn't make it ,,, but I would be happy for England if they lifted the trophy....sge needs to pick up some hungry scorers.

Agreed but we are working on the basis that Owen and Rooney may not make it to the WC. If they do then that changes things a bit.
Bare in mind, though, that Harewood is a player who has scored against Chelsea, ManU, Boro and Bolton this season. All clubs who have been playing in Europe this season. This not only displays that he has goal scoring ability but the confidence to take that ability to tough opposition and not feel threatened by them.
Is that not the type of player needed in the WC??
