View Full Version : MLS Direct Kick video quality...

I'm watching NYRB v Chivas on Direct Kick via Dish and this has to be some of the worst looking video I have ever seen. On the wide shot the grass/turf looks grey, like the chroma is being sucked out.
Somewhere in the signal chain the video is taking a big hit and it really looks degraded.
Add to that the fact that the graphics look fuzzy, almost lo-res.

Anyone else notice this?

BTW - someone needs to recalibrate the field level video ring/ad boards at the HDS for broadcast. Everytime I watch an MLS game from there the half the ads are blown out and unreadable. I assume it's the same Daktronics ring/ad board that Man U uses at Old Trafford and that one reads perfectly for broadcast.

not only is the picture quality degraded, the picture size is. i have black borders around all 4 sides of the picture. i don';t get this on any other channel. this may just be a comcast issue.

I watched that game on Direct Kick/Dish as well and noticed no problems. It looked fine to me.

MSG network is notorious for this. Their picture quality on soccer matches is horrible. I don't know the technical problem but it seems to be sort of run thru a filter of some kind.

It's ironic because it's rare that you actually have a broadcast team JP Dellacamera and Shep Messing) who are enjoyable to listen to but a completely dumpy picture.
