So I gotta do some homework for school that involves making a poster that links text with an image. So I was going around the net finding cool pics of music icons and come across this:
http://clashphotorockers.free.fr/images/pose/01posestrummer10.jpg
I really like the picture and really wanna use it but I have no idea what text to link it with. ALso I have no idea what his shirt really means ("Passion is a Fashion"). But anyways can any of you Clash Fans come up with something cool clash related that will go with that pic? Something simple like "Revolution Rock" or whatever that will go with that image.

MC,
not sure if this will help you out or not...
i checked my copy of "last gang in town," a GREAT book on the clash, and found this.
strummer was in a band, previous to clash, called the 101ers. the only strummer song to really survive that band was "jail guitar doors," and even that was virtually entirely re-written by mick.
anyway, another member of the 101ers was named clive timperley. as joe became disillusioned with the 101ers, preferring to head in a more straight punk direction (the opening lines of "all the young punks" are autobiographical in how he came upon the clash), he and clive had a falling out. clive left, and joined a band called the passions. their only hit was 1981's "i'm in love with a german film star."
whether this has ANYTHING to do with that shirt is beyond me....shoot, i guess i wasn't any help at all!!

What kind of text do you have to link to the image? I'm confused because the image you've selected already has text (your work is done!)

yeah I know, when he died I was thinking about doing a banner for him that said, "101er 4 LIFE" in red/black with his face on it. But then I realized how much work it will take so I went back to playing Nintendo.

That's true! LOL!
Think of this as like a magazine article where at the beggining they have an image of the band and some corky headline. It's for a typography class so I need to make the font treatment myself and make it reflect the mood of the image. I don't really have a problem with that as much as just the copy.

how's about "Selling Revolution".
Try some variation of the spray paint/stencil style font, which is very Strummer/Clash style.

That works for me.
White Man In Hammersmith Palais
(Strummer/Jones)
Midnight to six man
For the first time from Jamaica
Dillinger and Leroy Smart
Delroy Wilson, your cool operator
Ken Boothe for UK pop reggae
With backing bands sound systems
And if they've got anything to say
There's many black ears here to listen
But it was Four Tops all night with encores from stage right
Charging from the bass knives to the treble
But onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel
Onstage they ain't got no...roots rock rebel
Dress back jump back this is a bluebeat attack
'Cos it won't get you anywhere
Fooling with your guns
The British Army is waiting out there
An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons
White youth, black youth
Better find another solution
Why not phone up Robin Hood
And ask him for some wealth distribution
Punk rockers in the UK
They won't notice anyway
They're all too busy fighting
For a good place under the lighting
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, ha you think it's funny
Turning rebellion into money
All over people changing their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I'm the white man in the Palais
Just lookin' for fun
I'm only
Looking for fun

Slightly off topic but there's a revised book on the history of the Clash called Return of the Last Gang in Town. I bought it during lunch last Friday.

There's a photo of Mick Jones standing alone with a really blank look on his face in the liner notes to "Clash on Broadway" (which i lost in a xerox machine while attempting to copy said photo), which I always thought was crying out for some textual commentary.
Unfortunately google can't find it anywhere on the web.
anyone catch the J.Strummer tribute on the grammys? Got me thinking that Bruce Springsteen is probably the best choice to lead a reunited clash if it ever comes to that.
Westway To The World won in the long form music video category. Even though I swear I saw that movie when it premiered 3 or 4 years ago at CMJ...
