Iono about being "too" physical, but that is more of a problem of a lack of pace. He can't catch up to the strikers, so instead of trying to catch up, he'll grab the shirt or make a rash tackle and get a card (maybe red). What I'm more concerned about with him is how he GOT to the point of having to foul him...his positioning sense is very worrying and even Mertesacker reads the game better than he does. That directly coincides with playing time. Players of similar physical qualities of Huth (think of Sol Campbell, who isn't a fast player by any stretch of the imagination, in the past few World Cups) are better than Huth because they play more and thus they know where to be at certain times. Huth is young yes, but also doesn't play, which is a double hit for Germany.
he can the proble is he loses his footing or lets say balance, huth is fast and very fast the problem is he loses his footing and about positioning i say mertersacker positions himself in the wilderness, where there is nobody
Huth is usually the first to pass klinsmann fitness tests that's why is my andklinsmann darling

Huth is not fast at all. However, he is not slow either. I have noticed that once he gets moving, he does have pretty good pace for his massive size. Problem is his first few steps are slow as hell.
I will say that overall the guy has the talent to become a very good defender, problem is he is too dumb to see that he needs playing time every week to reach that point!
Its gonna take him a while to beat out experienced world class veterans like Terry, Carvalho, Gallas. etc.

I think everyone should stop picking on Huth. Granted, he's not the most talented...but he does hustle & give it his all--& this constant "slamming" is not really fair to him.
Yeah, a bit like Asamoah, really. :D More of a liability though, given that it's a defender we're talking about.

Well, in that case can we sign him up as a middle distance runner for the German Olympic team and get him off the football squad?

he is good running on a straight line i an opponent changes direction he loses his balance. he will move out of chelsea at the end of the season and he will become big , but at the moment he really needs playing time. though you know he is stillbetter than mertersacker with or without playing time.
farenhorst is better than nowotny and metersacker
mezlder is better than nowotny and mertersacker
farenhorst is better than metzelder.
Huth is the overall

Psychosis, good on you for starting this thread. I'm in total agreement with you on the fact that Huth has become something of a whipping boy for fans of the German National Team. Huth is easy to hate, and let me tell you why.
He's big, strong, and ugly. He looks like the bully who lives down the street who punches you in the gut to steal your lunch money. It's easy to hate a guy who looks like a mean, imposing thug.
Second, he's ugly. He's not short and cuddling-looking like Phillip Lahm whose cheeks you want to pinch because he looks like your 14 year-old cousin. Huth is just one thing: real ugly. To bad for him that he's so ugly at such a young age, because he's only going to get uglier.
Third, he's big. Since the beginning of time, people have liked to cheer on the underdog. Whether it's David vs. Goliath, Bayern Munich vs. Cologne, or Tyson vs. Buster, those people who don't swear allegiance to the big, bad favourites will always come down on the side of the under-dog. Huth is Goliath and everyone else is David, which is just another reason why people hate him.
To answer your intial question, yes, I think he has become something of a scapegoat for fans who are fed up with poor National Team performances. I'd like to hear a little more criticism of Friederich, who sometimes looks flaky. And then there's my personal whipping boy, Fabian Ernst, whose presence an play adds nothing to the National Team. Good on you, Psychosis, for raising this scapegoating issue. Cheers.

Forget about the Huth hardware crap.
Huth is living in a position at Chelsea which is much less than dignified to any player with quality and ambition.
He seems totally unsure if he can be paid as much in another club or will have a future as bright as sitting on the bench of Chelsea.

Christian,
You can't be serious right??? Since when is it important to any fan (but female) if a soccer player is cute and cuddly? How cute is a Rooney or Ronaldo. How good looking was a Paul Breitner??

Hey, and talking about looking like a "mean, imposing thug". how about "Die Walz aus der Pfalz"! :D

Uglier than hell, but people loved him, including myself!
There is one simple reason why people want Huth out of the NT: BECAUSE HE DOESN"T BELONG THERE!

ugly or not - he doesn't qualify for the job:
against Huth: poor skills, no experience, slow, benchwarmer at Chelsea:eek:
for Huth: nil
He is not good enough and he cannot compete at this level. :(

I think Huth has potential. He's big, strong, tackles well, has a cannon shot, and even shows a good touch on long passes (I saw Chelsea goal a few months ago, one of Huth's rare starts, where Huth laid in a perfect long ball to the streaking striker (forget who it was), for an easy goal. That was a pass that would have made Beckenbauer proud.
However, Huth is simply not ready now because of the extreme lack of playing time at club level, and being young still. Huth desparately needs to play for a smaller club, on loan from Chelsea, where he can get his much needed PT. They we'll see how he develops.
Huth is getting called up to the German nats simply because of the gaping hole at central defence, and is being thrown to the wolves in spite of being horribly unready for the task. And because of that, as well as early hype in his favor, Huth becomes the unfotunate scapegoat far too often.
Yes, it sucks that Huth gets called up right now, due to either Klinsmann's poor judgement or the lack of talent at his postion, or both. But let's give the guy a break until 2 or 3 more years, after he can get some PT at club level. He might very well end up a very good defender, if the fickin' press and fans don't totally destroy his confidence.
