Iran Blasts Israel's Election to Disarmament Commission
By EDITH M. LEDERER
AP
UNITED NATIONS (April 28) - Iran's U.N. ambassador on Thursday denounced Israel's election as a vice-chair of the U.N. Disarmament Commission, calling the Jewish state a threat to peace in the Middle East.
Ambassador Javad Zarif accused Israel of "violating every single Security Council resolution that has been adopted about the Middle East."
He also lashed out at Israeli criticism of Iran's own election as a vice-chair of the commission, noting the Jewish state has refused to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty but "has the audacity to talk about another country having a seat."
"That's absolutely ridiculous," he told a group of reporters at a lunch he hosted. "It's pushing the issue to the border of absurdity."

That is too funny. Classic. Iran complaining about this is even funnier.

You know maybe Iran should worry less about this and more about building some better earthquake proof homes. I bet that $50 million they are giving to Hamas would have been enough to build some better homes in Iran. Or feed some people in Darfur.

If there has ever been a better case of the pot calling the kettle black, I'd love to hear it. Iran being on the disarmament commission makes as much sense as Syria and Lybia being on the Human Rights Commission. The UN needs to get its sh!t together.

Also this version is valid.

The iranian ambassador has a point. Specifically, this point "noting the Jewish state has refused to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty".

I say it's better than both Israel and Iran are on the disarmament commision.

I could care less if Israel is on the commission. But the hilarious part is you can't see that it is comical that Iran is on it. You are so biased, it's not even funny.

The point is that also Israel being part of it is comical by your way of reasoning.

Also USA or Russia or China being part of it is farcical then if you really think about it.

A "Disarmament" commission involving Switzerland and Andorra wouldn't be of great use.

Pardon me if i think that the more places (commissions et alia) where different views and conflicting sides are represented, get involved and get to speak each other the better.

Iran should not accuse or ask others not to be part of the disarmament commission but Israel, which didn't even sign the NPT, shouldn't either. This is my POV. You think it's biased? No prob.

Many have in mind a UN which should act just as a mouthpiece of a precise country or group of countries interests and way to see things.
UN as it is is far from perfect but that would be the parody of what UN is meant to be. Whoever the country or group of countries is.

A couple of days ago a thread was created that mocked Iran's participation on this commision. You were silent. Only when Israel was noted via a separate thread did we hear from you..interesting...

Comical...just comical...

One day you'll recognize what the US has done for Europe and return that deed with thanks rather than insults.

Quite honestly, I couldn't care less for the thanks, but we could do without the consistent anti-american sentiment. Disagreement is fine, but you go beyond disagreement.

The answer is simple I didn't even see the thread you're mentioning. What is this obsession with looking for hidden motives?

Anyway you got the answer to that thread here. What's your problem?

Comical...just comical...

One day you'll recognize what the US has done for Europe and return that deed with thanks rather than insults.

And what this has to do with being an active agent for disarmament or the contrary, nowadays?

Quite honestly, I couldn't care less for the thanks, but we could do without the consistent anti-american sentiment. Disagreement is fine, but you go beyond disagreement.

Saying that USA never ceases arming itself, constantly developing more and more powerful weapons (conventional and not conventional, nuclear, biologic and chemical), is acknowledging the obvious not expressing an anti-american sentiment.

The anti-american sentiment could be favoured greatly when I have to read certain replies, thankfully many of your fellow americans counterbalance it with pure wisdom and quite logical thinking (as opposed to illogical/irrational).

Anyway I think you're still missing my point.

Also I resent your biased approach because you didn't accuse me of expressing also an antirussian and antichinese sentiment.
The phrase who offended you was Also USA or Russia or China being part of it is farcical then if you really think about it.

There's a reason why I mentioned more than one country. And I could have added "etc. etc.".

Israel and Iran (and Russia and China and USA and Pakistan and India) are ok being part of the Disarmament Commission. Also I have no problem with Israel being the vice-chair while I have problems with a country or a group of countries asking for another country not to be part of it.
