Haessler wasn't too bad, but, yea I agree not all time. Helmut Rahn may not have played the most games for Germany (just 40 times), but 21 goals from mostly a RW role and the fact that he scored what, IMO, is the most important goal in Germany football history (1954 final, to make it 3:2), he makes my list.

yes, Hässler was good, but definatly not so good to be in the Top 11 of all time!! come on.. he was small he was fast and he was a funny guy, but there was many players who was better than him.

where are Paul Breitner or Hrubesch?? where are Players like Netzer or Heynkes?? Vogts or Schuster?? Schnellinger or Völler?? Overath or Schwarzenbeck??
i can count so many players.. :)

when you say Hässler you also have to name Player like Olaf Thon, Stefan Reuter or Klaus Allofs

Yes, but it is very hard to make an all time German team. No one will have the absolute correct team, Germany has several great players for several positions.

but Hässler wasnt a Top 11 guy!! you cant put him in the same Team with Müller, Beckenbauer or Kohler, sorry but when we talk about the all time Team of the 90s.. maybe.. but not of all time ;)

yes its ok ;)
its no problem and poorvi can decide wich player he/she want in her/his team, but i would chose 5 other players before i would choose Hässler.
i always liked him as a player and as a personality, but i also always liked Tomislav Piplica and he isnt in my all time draft :p :)

Yes, you are right. It is a team mainly of players fom 1988. Thats when I started watching football from. Müller and Beckenbauer I have seen in tapes, and just becuase of their achievements and personal records, I've included in the all time 11.

Uwe Seeler, I've just heard about him, or seen a few seconds of clippings, and I cannot chose a player based on that.

Compared to the strikers who have played for Germany, and I've seen, Klinsmann is the best by far.
Who would you pick from-
Allofs,Klinsmann, Voeller,Mill, Steiner, Riedle, Janker, Kuntz, Kirsten ,Marschall, Bierhoff, Bobic, Klose, Podolski, Asamoah?
I would take Klinsmann

You haven't made your all time 11.

Vogts I should have considered. Ok, in my all time 11, you can replace Kohler with Vogts.
Schuster, if I remember right, did not even play in a world cup.
Overath i didnt take because I wanted an attack minded player in midfield. Some one who can dribble and work the ball forward. Thats why i chose Hässler.
Völler, I haven't taken becuase I felt Klinsmann is a better striker than him.

Fritz Walter is debatable. He has 33 goals in 61 appearances for Germany, where as Klinsmann has 47 in 108 games. As a ratio, Walter is better, but Klinsmann has won a World Cup and a Euro championsip. Also I suspect that Walter would have scored most of his goals against comapratively easy competition. The average goals scored in those days was considerably higher.Walters heroics came in a world cupp which had the highest goals/game average. Klinsmanns goals came in a world cup which had one of the lowest goals/average.

True, but in terms of importance (not only to football, but also to even the German nation), Fritz Walter far outweights Klinsmann IMO.

Klinsmann is not a bad striker to come off the bench though. :D

i wouldnt choose Vogts over Kohler, both are different playertypes, Vogts was a Terrier and Kohler the best German CB until today.
i just meant when you make an Team of All time, why you choose 8 Players from the 90s, 1 from the 80s and 2 from the 70s.
Germany was in 7 WC-Finals and 5 of them before the WC 1990 :)
thats all i wanted to say, wich Players you choose is your decision, i just see Players like Klinsmann and Hässler far away from our BEST 11.:)

More goals were scored during Walter's era, but you have to take into account that Fritz Walter was not an out-and-out striker like Klinsmann, in modern terms, you would say he was an attacking midfielder (back in the 40s and 50s the term for that was inside forward). Also, Walter was as least as instrumental in Germany winning the 1954 World Cup as Klinsmann was in 1990.

Plus, Walter's best years from a football age perspective (he was born in 1920) were roughly 1943/4 to 1950/51 (age 23 to 31). Exactly in these years he did not get to play any football for Germany, due to the war. So what we know of Walter is how good he was as a young player (1938-1942) and as a pretty old player (1952 to 1958). He was a very good player at 19 and still a a very good player at 38. One can assume he must've been brilliant between 23 and 31, but we'll never know. His standing in the football world would have been much higher if he had been able to play football during his best years.

Anyway, great idea for a thread, I will post my All-Time Germany team in a minute.

What happened with Netzer in 74?

Did he play at the 70 WC at all?
