Unfortunantely I have spring socceritis. All I can think about are outdoor soccer and pick-up games on green grass.
So to keep myslef busy until things thaw out, I'm thinking of building a small soccer goals out of PVC pipe (Something small enough to fold up and fit in the back of my civic for pick-up games). I figure it will be a fun project.
Just wondering. Has anyone done this before themsleves?
Do you have any plans I could follow for building goals?
Any suggestions?

A friend of mine had built some out of pvc. I only saw them once, but they were quite sturdy and I know the guys he regularly played with were quite disappointed on the days he didn't show up.
He went to Home Depot and started messing around with the pipes in the aisle, trying to figure out how it would work. When the employee figured out what he was doing, he helped too.
This guy built the innards out of some kind of very sturdy nylon mesh; it may have been the stuff people fence their vegetable gardens with to keep the deer out.
I don't know what size you want them to be, but make sure they're small enough that you can fit two of them in your car. (I'm sure you're not that stupid, but just to be safe).

It shouldnt be very difficult or expensive at all. Head to home depot and look around at the different kind of joints and size of pipes you can buy. After a few minutes you'll be able to get a very good picture of how it will all fit together. It shouldn't cost more than 30 dollars even if you get some kind of nylon/netting for them.

Went to home Depot yesteday looking for a snow shovel and when I couldn't find one, I headed past the PVC isle. That's where I got the idea.
I drive a Honda Civic I'm definitely makeing them small enough to fold up and and fit in the car.
champmanager- does you friened have any plans/diagrams/drawing of how he made his goals? Does he have any pictures he could post? Would like to see how he did them.

No, I haven't seen the guy in a couple of years. However, his defintely did not fold. But they were small enough that I think he fit them in his trunk...certianly they'd easily fit in the backseat of any normal-sized car. I don't think you could "fold" pvc...you could unsnap some of the pieces to make it more "crammable", but that would make it harder to install any kind of netting. And now I can't remember how he had attached the netting, but it was supersturdy stuff.

When I was 15 or 16 i wanted to build a net in my backyard, and was gonna go the route of PVC piping but it got too expensive for me (mind you I was only 16 without a job) So I just jimmy-rigged a net together with wood haha...didn't last very long blasting shots of the shoddy woodwork
But if you do want to go with PVC, it's good because you can take the pieces apart like the previous poster mentioned.
When I played U-9, we used PVC nets, but I don't remember if there was diagonal pipe from the crossbar/post to the lower corners. Just get some help from one of the workers.

Whats wrong with a set of Pugg pop up goals? They only cost about about $100 a set, but they work great, are just the right size, and they fold up small enough to fit in a Jugo if you need.
Or if you just have cabin fever and need to build you own, I suggest you try attatching the snow fencing or garden fencing to your pvc ones with machine screws...... thats what I have seen done. But to make them even half way sturdy, you're gonna have to make them permanently rigid. First shot or two on a goal thats not been glued together and they'll fall apart.
I built a pair of non-foldable goals that were 8'x4'. Make sure that there is support from the crossbar down to the back of the bottom.
I got my nets at Sportsmart (a local sporting goods store). They had elastic around the edge so that you didn't need to attach them with velcros snaps.

I'm pretty sure you can find a hinged PVC pipe fitting that loosens and tightens with a screw. I know I've seen them but I can't remember if I saw them at Home Depot or not.

It's definitely cabin fever. I figure I could just pick up some pugg goals but I think it might be more fun to build me own just for the gell of it, and to give me somethignto do while the fields are still thawing out.
Thanks for the advice on the fencing material.

Hinges would be cool. Let me know if you ever come across a place where you can buy them.
