As many of you have heard or saw at the game last week in NJ, after his first goal of the evening Alecko Eskandarian ran over to the sideline and was tossed a can of Red Bull drink. He took a sip, spat it out and tossed the can. Some called it cheeky, some thought it was disrespectful. The image was shown all over TV and the internet, was mentioned in the papers and was even included in the video clip for the Goal of the Week vote that was posted on the MLS website.
Alas, no good deed goes unpunished. On Tuesday of this week MLS fined Alecko $250. As the Washington Post has just listed all the MLS player salaries, we're pretty sure this won't put too much of a dent in Alecko's wallet. But as we are big Alecko fans (and we're in total support of sticking it to NY Red Bull!!) the SE Executive Committee has agreed to send a check for $250 to the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation where Alecko is a Board Member. Nicole was Thomas Rongen's stepdaughter and she was a very good friend of Alecko. Her brother was Alecko's teammate at UVA.
If you would like to make your own donation or learn more about the foundation, go here: http://www.remembernicole.org/about.htm
