Am watching the replay of barca v. ac on fsc right now, and noticed that the final will pit two nike outfitted teams. In most any circumstance this would be bad news for whichever company foudn itself on the outside looking in, in this case adidas which is likely the biggest hardware provided in the world.

what is the general consensus about this? just the random luck of the draw, or does this ruffle a lot of feathers at adidas hq?

They're still going to pull in more money by the end of the year.

Adidas will care more for the WC Finals this year.

Adidas will care more for the WC Finals this year.

and yet what's the likelihood an adidas team will make it into the finals? Adidas pays a ton of money to get their logo plastered all over the CL and at the WC and yet so often when you get to the end the teams on the field are nike (or like in 2002, Nike prevailing over adidas)...

So? Adidas is still the top brand in football and manages to make more money each year, even when "nike teams" win. It is simply a better run business and now with the acquisition of reebok it sales will only go up.

Plus, once the group stages are over in the WC, there will be jus as many adidas teams. You also have to look at how long adidas have been in the football business, as opposed to nike, profits build over time my friend.

Err, Nike's annual revenue is almost twice as much as adidas.

I strongly doubt adidas has a bigger profit margin than Nike.

Nike vs. Nike? Adidas out of the final???? so the 2002 CL final was Adidas vs. Adidas? No. It was Real Madrid FC vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen. This is football/soccer. Maybe some companies use the game as a promotional space, but that's not the purpose of the game.

All sports gear manufacturers with enough $$$ will pay to make the shirts of the top (most popular) teams. Being in the CL final doesn't bring that much more exposure. Maybe Adidas should be more worried that they only sponsor a couple of the teams that got to the CL playoffs. That's lack of exposure.

I strongly doubt adidas has a bigger profit margin than Nike. Why would this matter? Profit margin is a percentage figure - it measures profitability and cost control, not which company rakes in more cash, or even makes greater profits.

In any case I presume we're talking about Nike football vs adidas football, rather than the two companies as a whole. In the football industry, I'm pretty sure adidas is bigger - at least in Europe.

Adidas are still the kings of football...... Nike have been involved at the top level for a much MUCH shorter time and have no history like Adidas-Beckenbauer etc

Take that back, the biggest soccer tournament is gonna be in Rio Joga thingy... :) !

I am really hating Nike at the moment...
I cannot stand the Joga Bonito ads...Cantona hosting complaining using videos of players kung fu kicking opponents, for shame that should be reserved for fans!

The Brazil NT plays beautiful always...Rivaldo in WC 2002 he was playing for am the Yellow Submarine not Brazil!

NOT TO MENTION i am hearing rumours Nike wanna change JUVE stripes to a plain black and white half-hlaf jersey... TU MADRE!

ADIDAS counter their JOGA BONITO with a simple, simple 10 second ad.
Show the Ilhan Mansiz RAINBOW flick over Roberto Carlos still one of the greatest moves i have ever seen on a football pitch in a WC match no less.

Perhaps they could use Fernando Redondo's fancy moves on the wing vs Man Utd a couple years back at Old Trafford to set up Raul in Real's 3-2 win!!!
Does the game get any more beautiful than that, a DM performing an amazing move to then pass rather than be greedy to a striker the symbol of his club?
PS I am no Real Madrid fan either!
