Here's the link. It's a pretty good article comparing Duncan to some of his more prolific scoring peers who are also heading towards retirement.

"But it would be a sign of desperation if Everton were to renew his contract."

Wow, I wouldn't say that at all. Dunc means a lot to this club and I wouldn't be surprised if he got another year (albeit at a fraction of the wages he's making now).

This is where we differ Sara! I think signing Dunc on a one year extension or even on a pay as you play deal simply reeks of desperation! :) What next, a 2 year deal for Weir? Or Pistone?

In my very humble opinion, re-signing Dunc would signal that Moyes and the board have given up. There are younger, fitter forwards we could sign. I don't know who they are yet...Palace's Johnson keeps coming up...but there are definitely others who could take Dunc's place.

Just my .02.

I'm not denying that we need a newer/faster/stronger/better forward (and Johnson is not the answer).

I do, however, think that if Dunc says he wants to play another year, then he thinks he can contribute in some way. He's a professional (when he's not trying to strangle someone) andhe's not the type at all to come in and be satisfied with crap. If he didn't think he could add something, he would retire.

And to be honest, I think he will retire at the end of the season. What I'd hate the most is for Dunc to finish his career someplace else.

Moyes trusting Dunc's judgment about his own fitness and capabilities, in my opinion, is not a sign of desperation and it doesn't let Moyes off the hook for signing someone else. It simply shows some respect for someone who means an awful lot to Everton and Evertonians.

Same wavelength you and me. Hes looked disinterested and will most likely go down as the first Everton number 9 not to score in a season.

BTW is your name Diana by any chance?

You're right, he does mean a lot to a LOT of Evertonians. Just not this one. This season he has been anything but effective. What I've seen is a slow, unfit player with a short temper who appears to lack motivation. A seven game ban? I don't care if you say that that was an unfair length or that the FA was after Dunc because of his reputation, etc. It doesn't excuse the fact that Duncan decked that guy. That's not a professional in my book.

I hope he does retire. I also hope he scores in the last two games of the season, so he can get a proper send-off.

Yes, that would be me. Can you please erase my full name from your post?

Thanks!

Thank you.

As for Duncan, I just get so frustrated when he's brought on. We all expect so much out of him but what he gives is less than what Evertonians deserve. I believe he's an Evertonian through and through, but his nil satis isn't nisi optimum. If ya know what I mean.
