I think it is a great feat for a team such as villarreal to reach the semi-finals of the CL and nearly reach the final. U have to remember that 15 years ago they were in regional leagues in spain.

Villarreal achived more than i had imagined but they achived lesser than what i was hoping.

it was a great achivment for this small team to reach the semis in CL. they should be praised, indeed.

i hope in 2008 villareal will make the CL again and this time win it all. yes i am still heartbroken by what happened but what they did certainly deserves praise!

Yes, their diving was olympic quality. It was a joy to watch.

You can't blame them for their diving, it's part of Spanish culture. Their achievement is like Accrington Stanley getting to the CL semi-final.

Almost as joyous as a team that refuses to leave its own box for 90 minutes. That's what I call the beautiful game.

Villa-real, small town northwest of Valencia on the coast in Castellon.

if only there gonna be a factor to stop their development, it is their origin.

Almost as joyous as a team that refuses to leave its own box for 90 minutes.

Staying in your own box is a legitimate tactic and within the rules, both written and unwritten.

Sure what they did was great, but they probably faced the easiest teams in Rangers and Inter Milan in the knockout rounds.

Quality-wise your right, but by the way they played, they were terrible.

I think to be honest and fair VR deserve alot of respect for their showing in the UCL...

but to also be honest and fair that is all they obv cared about this year with their 9th place showing in La Liga... there is no excuse for that with that talent

Vila-real is a city of only about 50,000, very close to Castellon (whose team has been languishing at the bottom of the 2nd the whole year). There are almost as many seats in the stadium as there are people in Vila-real!

Villareal is fortunate to have as its president the owner of Mercadona (and a large tile business too, I think). He has, if I remember correctly, spent a lot of his own fortunes into building that team to be strong contenders.
