Everyone misses penalty kicks. Eto'o missed a crucial penalty in the african Nation's cup. Ronaldinho has missed penalty kicks. Why is this even coming up now? Perhaps he might have had Man U for next year on his mine, but he is not overrated, he is rarely talked about enough.

This is not a discussio nabout the Pk miss.
For once , Riquelme didnt step uo to some fansexpectations. All through out this 2 uefa crucial games , he didnt step up as a leader like hes proclaimed to be . He seems very sluggish and slow in controlling the mid field and didnt do squat. I dont get it at times why people praise him as being one of those unique fews , due to the fact when hes given a chance he doesnt step up and make the difference in the game.
Hes still a great player but doesnt shine in my eyes .

Senna impressed me more tbh. But I don't watch Villarreal often.

Of course he sucks, he only took lowly Villarreal to semifinals! Boo I say.
I mean, compare him to Cuauhtemoc Blanco with Valladolid, hooboy, they won it all

U dont watch him regurlarly, the only thing to say, is that he is the best creative midfielder in the world. Anyone can miss a penalty, plus Ronaldinho never took PSG that far with his team, Riquelme almost did the imposible.
Arsenal won, but they got lucky. Is not riquelme who is failing is ********ing Forlan! who can put one in the net! he has failed!

Pretty funny that you post two threads in different forums about him within a half hour of his miss. Why discuss this now? Why different forums?

enough said. you win this thread.
Speaking these kind of nonsense, like doubting Riquelme's potential and abilities, are a result of a) not watching enough Villarreal/Argentina games, and b) watching people like German Villa instead :p

Take out the words 'Riquelme' and 'midfield' with 'Henry' and 'attack' and you have a perfect example of the Frenchman's performance tonight.
If Riquelme is overrated in your eyes on the basis of that one game, then surely Henry is not that far behind.

I have already answered this shite in the identical thread on the BG board. Blame the likes of Franco for their ineptitude instead.

Can you honestly explain to me what Riquelme did in this game and last and what his participation was all about . He had the most resposibility as being the main mid fielder and basically Penne has to take the responsibility .

All those who have voted 'yes' have just publically displayed their complete lack of knowledge when it comes to football. Congratulations.

Riquelme had 2 back to back off games but that doesn't mean he is overrated he is actually one of those players who is underrated.
if you think he is overrated because of his 2 semifinal games, then what would you call him for taking a team like Villarreal in the Semis?

For crying out loud...
I should have stated in the thread .
This discussion about Riquealme is as a whole in depth which most likely includes the Argentine National Team side and not just this 2 Champions League games. It woulkd be quite attrocious just to point fingers at this 2 games and that would be quite hysterical and medirocre on the part .

I never said that I stil lthink hes a must for their national side , but mnay fans dont want him and this has nothing to do with club rivlaaries , mostly blaming it on the national team coach for him wanting hi m to start

He's a crucial part of the Argentina National side, and looks every bit like the playmaker they have been crying out for. He was pretty inspirational when they beat Brazil 3-1 in the WC qualifiers last summer.
Riquelme is very much like a centralised Beckham (Beckham of 1999 that is.)
To moan about he hasn't got any pace or can't tackle is like saying Henry can't head the ball or Van Nistelrooy doesn't track back. He does what he's supposed to do, orchestrate the attack in the space behind the strikers.
Taking a team like Villarreal to 4th place in La Liga, the semi finals of the UEFA cup and then to the semi finals of the CL is something not to be scoffed at...
