There was a good article in the most recent Atlantic Monthly (available at newsstands near you!) about this subject, although it seems to differ with this report on a few points.

Also two books - Delta Force by Charlie Beckwith ( the unit creator ) and The Guts To Try by the officer in charge of the Air Force side are great reads
