Anyone catch the latest promo for Scottish football where they say: "THE Glasgow Celtic are one of the greatest teams" or something and then "THE Rangers are their big rivals... so make sure and watch when 'THE' Celtic play 'THE' Rangers..." What is that all about?! Since when did people who know world soccer start referring to Celtic and Rangers as THE Celtic and THE Rangers? I know it is probably grammatically correct but that is not the way it is done in the soccer world. I guess it is just a pet peeve of mine.

Yeah, beacuse people in Spain never refer to "El Madrid", "El Depor", or "El Beti".
Maybe you're a little too sensitive about this.

The use of the definite article in the latin languages is much different than ours. I speak portuguese and it took me a while to figure out the transparency of using the definite article in front of peoples names for example. Apples and oranges. But when have you heard a professional advert or any experienced soccer announcers or writers call Celtic and Rangers that?

I have to take exception to the slagging of Max Bretos. I'll take him over Jack, Ty or any of the Mouse's commentators. He is vastly entertaining and has an astoundingly wide and eclectic amound of knowledge about the game. He can make even a dreary match watchable. The recent Malaga - Leeds UEFA Cup fixture springs to mind. A more turgid scoreless draw I've never seen. But Bretos' comments and sly asides were funny and kept me from turning the channel. He even knew that Malaga's coach had a little dacha up the coast in some village and made some witty comment about same.
I admit that he has a hard time carrying a match by himself, but what commentator doesn't? I think he and Alan Hopkins make a good pair though. But he really comes into his own when doing the Brazillian games with his spanish-speaking counterpart whose name I can't recall. Those two have a great time together and all their games are listenable.
But the best thing I can say is that he brings a good combination of knowledge, plus that latin-style dramatic delivery that makes watching games on Galavision so fun even though my Spanish is excreable (sic).
Your opinion may vary but name me a qualitatively better US-based play-by-play guy.

Alan Hopkins does Brazilian soccer by himself. Max does Argentine league with argentine Christian Bozzo.

I've gotta plug Max. The Argentine review show rocks and any Boca game will keep me up all night to watch. "I've gotta plug Max" God that sounds bad.

Same three that came to mind when the challenge of find me a better US announcer and rather quickly came to mind I may add.
Max drives me nuts with the attempts at accents. I know damn well that when they French league last season, he was atrocious @ screwing up a name when attempting an accent. I'll take the mute button before him. He's a great example of too much useless knowledge and he's not the most objective of announcers.
I'm laughing at the Iron Maiden commercial. Funny. This thread has definitely been entertaining. I'll take the ads for the love of the beautiful game but you gotta diss them just because. Fuuny thing was that when I startd this thread right after posting it, I got nailed with a pop up for the "Pasta Pro". Couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes after that one.
I'm trying to think of a few more of the classic FSW ads et al.

Okay, I probably went too far there. But considering how much I have to listen to Max and how seldom I hear the other three, he's still not bad.

I love the FSW commercials. When my wife is in the other room and hears Billy Mays, she always yells, "NO, we do not need it!"
My classic commercial was the one for the little thing that folds shirts for you. I really wanted one!
That and the 80's hair band commericals.

That guy Billy Mays is able to sell anything. Who else could take a couple of 10 cent suction cups, attach them to a handle, call it a 'dent remover' and sell it for 20 bucks?

The worst show on FSW by far is the Asian Sports Show on Fridays. Hands down the worst show on the whole damn Channel. If you've seen this show once you've seen it too many.
I hope they get paif a lot of money to show it because that's the only way I can see anyone justifying showing it.
We should all be grateful they only show Cricket once in a blue moon

Oh snap, almost forgot this one
the Baseball Camp video thing. Has anyone ever heard of that super scout? Fred McGriff came cracks me up. It's like a bad ad for the Simpsons, you know the ones they actually have on the cartoon.

No $hit. Even my wife the magical seamstress couldn't get that thing to work worth a damn!
