"Africa's past success at junior international competitions has always had a nagging credibility problem."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/2773077.stm

All of this has come to light because of the recent scandal of the U17 team in Kenya.

With this coming to light, and the recent cancellation of the third game of the Kansas City Wizard's preseason South African tour, why does FIFA insist on putting the 2010 WC Finals somewhere in Africa?

The World Cup is going to be hosted in Africa in 2010. Accept it and get on with ur life. Why wont anyone see what the African countries have to offer before dissmissing them as potential candidates?

Cancelled games and falsifying birth certificates? I've seen enough, thank you.

"The KFF have vehimently denied that age cheats played for the national under 17 team, after the Sport's Minister disbanded the side claiming some of the players were over-age."

Kenya could be kicked out of African Nations qualifying.

The plot thickens...

I wouldn't blame South Africa for the cancelled games because the financial backer of the tour was a company out of El Paso, Texas. However, one could blame the South Africans for lack of attendance.

...and the South Africans should flock to see the Kansas City Wizards begin their pre-season training for what reason exactly?

Mexico was disqualified from the World Cup for the very same offences. If cheating is as rampant as some suggest, I would think it easily disqualifies a Confederation from hosting the Cup.

A confederation should be disqualified just because one country happens to be guilt, and all countries including the innocent ones should take the fall, i dont see how this is fair in anyway.

You're right. If it was just one I don't think the whole confederation should be punished. But, if you read the article you would see that it suggests that cheating by African countries is rampant.

Again, I don't know if it is true, but if it is I don't think it is wrong to punish the confederation.

An in-depth article from 'The Nation (Narobi)'....

"It was not just Ongoli. Investigations by the Nation Sports Desk revealed that a number of the U-17 players are indeed over-age, including Bonvenger Misiko, Francis Ochieng' (21 years old), Oliech (later dropped following complaints) and Nichodemus Anunda."

You shouldnt punish the whole confederation for a couple of countries age cheating. Age cheating has nothing to do with hosting the world cup. Africa is getting 2010 because we have not held a wc before it is as simple as that. Stop trying to bring in insignificant issues as an excuse for Africa to not host it.

Are you always this paranoid? I'd be happy to see the World Cup in Africa - I hear South Afica is a beautiful place and would love to visit. But, if (and this is a big if) the cheating is as rampant as speculated, it is a black eye on the confederation and it is possible they could be punished by not having the World Cup there.

How do we know its only Africa involved in cheating if infact they are indeed involved? What about the European nations? The African-European Meridian cup that just ended could provide me evidence the the European nations fielded over aged players and that was why the younger African teams lost out. Who knows???

I checked the rosters for the teams that participated in this years meridian cup and the ages of the europeans teams were about 2 years old than those of the African teams.

The focus on age cheating is directed at Africa because they dominate youth tournaments at the u17, u20, & u23 levels and europe and the rest of the world see africa as inferior when it comes to soccer.

And If, the age cheating is true that is no cause to take away hosting the world cup.

More possible age related problems out of Africa...

"Mozambique sent to CAF to protest against the qualification of 3 Guinean players who have participated in the Guinea / Mozambique U-17 match"

http://www.cafonline.com/news.asp?id=216

Mozambique played Guinea in the final round of the African U17 qualifying.

Africa seemes to be the biggest problem related to overage players. The blame should be more on the heads of the FA's and not the countries themsleves.

Mexico and Honduras got caught for doing the same in the past. As have several Asian countries.

The test that is done in the AFC is through X-ray and checking bone structure and mass. This is how many AFC teams have been caught.

Kenya have been banned by the CAF from all youth competitions for two years.
