Looks like it, these kind of stories were always going to be on the go this week after his alleged fall out with Strachan on Sunday.
If he goes he'll be a big loss to Celtic.

I have mixed feelings about this really. On one hand Petrov wanted a rest and GS wants to finish strong and also did not want a lose to ruin celebrations. Then on the other hand it pisses me off to know avail how prima donna professional footballers are in thinking they can call the shots. And when people don't listen to them they start flapping there gums. So if he wants to leave there's the door, your not bigger than the team.

An update to the Petrov saga. Word is Lawwell has put a $6M tag on his head. Doubt he would make a move to either Fulham or Everton as they are not top tier clubs. He would be a good replacement for Ballack when he moves to Chelsea. If he wants to go let him and take the money and bring in some more young talent.

I'd rather he stays, however if he wants to leave then good luck to him and hold out for some decent money

Looks like its pretty much done, I wish him the best and I hope Celtic holds out for atleast $6M fee for him.

Does anyone else think this was all stage-managed? It's an awfully quick volte-face from a guy who signed a new contract only a short while ago. Could he and Celtic have reached a quiet gentlemans' agreement whereby he sign a new contract, get his summer move but also get the club some cash?
Or, is it my personal theory, wherein the players have been informed of the transfer budget for the summer and the probable state of affairs next season, with Petrov doing the sensible thing and jumping ship? :)

I would say it is the first and not the latter. Celtic gave him the stage to show his talent and what better way to to reward your employer than to give them a nice transfer kitty. If we are unable to find a suitor for him at the very least of $6M we hold him until the January transfer window or the following summer. I see the list of the clubs that have intrest in him and the only club that stands out is Bayern. Newcastle is a UEFA cup club at best and well the others aren't even that.
