Its looking more doubtful by the day...Schalke coach Mirko Slomka dropped him for the upcoming match against Sevilla (along w/ Lincoln). He als stated that:

"At the moment it looks as if I will be lucky to make the World Cup at all. But I'm going to keep fighting."

Question: is he in, or is he out of the German squad?

the better question is who would go instead? Does that put Hanke back in the mix despite his two-game suspension?

Maybe Kiessling? Lauth (bah)... even Brdaric?

Yea I think Kuranyi is going...I dunno why he is concerned about his place in the WM, he's a good forward (not great). And thats a position where Germany is a bit lacking.

I just can't imagine Klinsmann nominating somebody who has never played for him, ie, Kiessling and Lauth.
Bdaric, however, is in the mix, as is Neuville.

After watching Lauth n Keissling played in the last few games, I think Lauth is a better replacement for Kuranyi.

Lauth is someone I wish could be a regular for the german NT had it not been for his injuries and inconsistent play. He's got a great scoring instinct and excellent technique. When he's on, I always notice how easy he makes it look when scoring a goal.

Still, he hasn't played with the NT since 2004, and never under Klinsmann. I agree with ohk4, that Lauth's chances of making it are very slim.

Personally, even though he's been inconsistent (frustratingly so for Schalke fans), I think he will make team in the end. Hanke's 2 game suspension is a big minus for him, Brdaric has done well this year, but Kuranyi has a much better track record on the NT.

The inconsistency in some of the established NT players, like Kuranyi is really a headache. We only wish Kuranyi to boost up his form really fast, and starting from tomorrow, the match against Seville.

Take this one, Schalke!

Well, the good thing about Kuranyi is that the only thing consistent about him is that he scores for the National Team. And theres nothing wrong with that.

he used to score for the national team

Jahr Nation Position Spiele Tore Vorl.
2003 Deutschland Angriff 7 1 0
2004 Deutschland Angriff 13 10 2
2005 Deutschland Angriff 15 3 2

Nonetheless, those 10 goals in 2004 look pretty impressive.

True, but he did have a good Confederations Cup showing. Thats a good platform for the big world stage that is the WM.

Let's leave Bradric out of this conversation please.

I'd take Kiessling over Lauth simply becuase he has had a more consistent showing...then again Lauth has a much broader experience seeing as how he had played in the Uefa Cup as well and that counts a lot nowadays.

My gut feeling tells me Jurge will pick Kuranyi no matter how he performs in the last games of the season.

Kuranyi's game has gone down since (slightly) going from Stuttgart to Schalke.

He's still pretty good, though. Not world class by any means, but pretty good just the same. And he has put the ball in the back of the net for the nats.

Inconsistent? I don't think so at all. He has been consistently bad throughout the 2005/2006 season ;)

Come on, he'd miss two third of Germany's games then :D.

That's the spirit!

I mean, it's "Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden", not "bei Gegnern".

Yeah, I stole this from Harald Schmidt...
