Saw that this was being discussed already in other threads, but thought it deserved its own. He has a separated shoulder. I'm not too familiar with that injury myself, but I would think he would be off his legs for at least a week to allow his shoulder to properly recover. Thoughts?

it's a dislocation and it doesn't sound promising

You never know with shoulder seperations. I have had two myself. One took about 3 weeks to heal and have full rotation back. The other took 3 months to have full range of motion. The latter seperation I was out of action for 6 weeks and even after that six weeks the shoulder really gave me trouble when I ran. The arm movement really jarred the shoulder.

I really hope for the best for Jonathan. I have my fingers crossed that he will be able to recover in an timely manner and not jepordize his WC chances. If and a big if, he's out for the cup do we bring in Heath Pearce as the back-up LB? Thinking about the worst case scenerio, we need have limited choices at LB, aside from the converted Lewis, and we need a back-up.

No, Heath Pearce might be close to the 33, but the 23, no.

Hejduk and Boca can play LB well enough. Albright might be insurance as he can play both sides too. Would rather have Conrad (since he can back up at right) and then Hejduk can backup at left... we'll see though.

Albright has flopped on the left.

Albright has flopped on the left.

When was that?

Albright has shown well offensively and has held his own defensively when given an opportunity. He is the best RB in MLS and he might be able to stretch his game to the international level needed for the WC.

on the RIGHT side, in his natural position. On the left aganiist Jamaica, he wasn't very good.

Awful news indeed, he was fast becoming one of the best young players in the EPL indeed and because he was in Europe, never got the caps that Arena should have given him.

The Jamaica game for instance not mention one of the late WCQers.

You like Spector too? ... damn. I guess I need to find another favorite up-and-coming defender. Your love for Twellman is only eclipsed by how awful he's played over the last few months.

Either way, Spector is miles better than Albright on defense and is solid enough coming up the wing to help out. Hope it's one of those minor shoulder dislocations and nothing too serious. He really did deserve a few more caps and I'd like to see him be the 8th defender this WC. He's been one of the more solid defenders in the EPL recently... totally shut down Cahill and played well against Hasselbaink recently. Let's see how this turns out :o

Damn. totally sucks as he was probably going to make the 23 player roster.

Seriously. Hejduk, Albright, and Dunivant are all ahead of Pearce in the pecking order. With Boca, Gibbs, Convey, and either Albright or Hejduk we should be fine at left back. On the right we have Cherundolo and either Hejduk or Albright. I'm more worried about that.

I haven't seen him play enough to throw out an opinion but is it true Spector "was fast becoming one of the best young players in the EPL"???

How many defenders that are younger than him saw more playing time in the Premiership this season? The answer to that question should give you the answer to yours.

Well, I guess this lets Bruce off the hook to take his favorites now without being second guessed.

I hope he takes Albright over Frankie. At least Chris could be useful late in a game on dead ball situations if we need a goal.

I'm not crazy about the defending skills of either one.

Separated shoulders hurt like the dickens. But at least it's not a weight bearing injury, so less chance to be chronic in a football player... except, Spector is noted for his fantastically long throw-ins, so lingering effects could harm a very positive aspect of his game.

The thing I watch very closely when evaluating a wing back is how well they defend the other team's forwards and midfielders when they get one v. one in the corner. Can they force the guy to pass back or do they get beaten and allow the offensive player to make a quality cross, or god forbid, dribble right past them and into the six yard box. On this count, at least against Jamaica, Albright got beat every time the situation occurred. That can't happen. As a wing back, your number one job is to prevent crosses.

If you're overstating this it's not by much: he didn't look good in one v one situations last week. However, I will say that when I watched the US play Jamaica in Columbus during the recent WC qualifying rounds he looked much better, and did so against a Jamaican team that was (I assume, based on circumstances) better than the one playing last week. In that game Albright usually contained his mark and displayed good-to-very-good speed in recovering defensively. I noticed it because given our seats he was directly in front of us for a half.

Still may be too early for more news, but keeping this on topic, does anyone know anything more about the severity of Spector's injury. It definitely appears to be a dislocation, not a seperation, which is bad. His agent doesn't sound too optimistic, either, which isn't a good sign.

As soon as we get numbers, as far as days, weeks, surgery, etc. please let us know. Thanks.
