Are there any, because I can't really think of an Italian-American player on the Fire. MLS always talks about trying to tap into the ethnic make-up of a city, but we have no Italian players.

Zach Thornton is as Italian as they will come in MLS.

LMAO! I mean DC has Quaranta, and they just got Gazza to capitalise on the large English population in DC...

Yeah. We need a Mexican player, a Chinese player, and an Irish player, cause there's so many of them around. We'd do well to get some Pakistani and Vietnamese too. Oooh, and a Hungarian. Maybe a Haitian and a Dominican too? Lots of Canadians nearby need to tap into that ethnic market too.

(For the incredibly dense, the above was a joke. Ethnic marketing trough roster decisions doesn't work. Period.)

Incidentally, when MLS talks about tapping into the ethnic market, they mean getting them to support the teams and buy tickets through things like youth teams and sponsorship, plus community events like player appearances...not signing players of their particular race.

Let's swap Boca for Maldini straight up, then use our allocation to bring in Cassano. Yeah, that will bring in any paisans that don't already show up.

As far as I can tell the Italian population has 1) Grown up and 2) moved out of the city proper.

The kids are now assimilated, full-blooded Americans and they like Basketball, Football & possibly even Baseball(!!). The older crowd appreciated the Sting but hasn't moved over to the Fire. Eastern Europe is were most people "fresh off the boat" seem to be coming from.

How about sticking with good AMERICAN players. They just finished 8th in the World Cup and there's rumored to be over 7 million or so in the Chicago Metropolitan area.

True...one exception is the Salvadorans in D.C. I can't explain why...it just is.

No Italians, but one pretty damn fine Italian Beef Sandwich in the concession area.

Well done Buano Beef!

Don't forget that Italian-American rookie midfielder Craig Capano.

Damn, we gotta have him over for some linguine & calamari, or some of mama's egg plant parmesan (everyone likes it but me)& some babaloosh (sp?). BTW, maybe he knows where to get a good breaded steak. Since mama moved to Naples, I haven't had a good one.
