Also, forgot to mention one thing: Butt's rating goes way up when you play him as a LB or RB (like 5 points, up to 78), so he's worth keeping on as a sub.

Great call. He's been doing wonders for me there.

Currently I sit 2 points clear of Chelsea with 23 matches played. I also had a game on Chelsea. I have 13 wins 9 draws and 1 loss. That loss was horrific in the form of a 4-1 drubbing at SJP by Charlton. We were booed off the field.

My next game is the League cup final which I believe is similar to the Carling Cup. Anyway we're playing the Arse.

The January Transfer window was very good to me. I was able to sign Wayne Bridge but Chelsea demanded a lot for him. Sold Luque to West Ham, Bramble to I forget where and I loaned out a lot of my younger lads. Bit me in the ass though when Luque scored the opener for West Ham, but we did win the match 6-2.

That brings up another point of the game I enjoy. When you're cold you're cold and when you're hot you're hot. I beat Middlesbrough 5-0 and then turned around and drew 0-0 with Pompey. I also liked the "International fixture" that was played in my season. I had Parker and Owen go into the England squad for their 1-1 draw with Belgium. The weather is a big factor I have noticed. I had to go to Cardiff for an English Cup game and I had to sludge around in a downpour and got a 3-2 win. The only reason they were in it was the rain. I have also noticed that the rain will either get heavier or lessen as the game progresses.

Just call me Roeder...

I finally got my tactics figured out on FM 07 and make a late run into the UEFA cup. I made some great signings in the summer (Bridge and Glen Johnson), so what does the game do? Huge injury crisis. Johnson, Carr, Atkin, Parker, Solano, Martins, Emre, Shay, Harper, Ramage, Taylor, Duff, Bernard, and Butt were all out within a 2 month span. I had three players carted off in one game, and they were all out long term. I hate this game so much.

In my entire tenure at Newcastle, Michael Owen hasn't been injured once

But this season Butt's out the entire second half on the campaign :(

What is Football Manager? Is it a computer or Game console game? Do you actually watch the players play?

It's for the PC only.

That's basically all I know about it, but I'm sure our friends here can fill you in.

It is coming out for consoles now, but I cant imagine it will be any good.

Football Manager is a sports simulation. You never control the players and play games, but you do everything else at the club. Transfers, salarys, media, training schedules, tactics, and everything else you can think of.
You can start at any team you want or start unemployed and work your way up. You can play just about any league in the world and many of the lower levels. You can take a semi-pro team in Conference North to the Prem if you want to take the time to build them.
The game is database driven and their database is huge. You can buy players from all over the world that are real and their talent levels are really close to real life, I think.
In the US it is called Worldwide Soccer Manager, but I always buy a Football Manager CD from eBay.

He's a good defender and great going forward. I wanted him for the Toon.

He's clearly not worthy now.

Rented FIFA 07 again. Need to just buy the damned thing already.

First thing I did, sold Luque. Bought Bale and Micah Richards to go with Taylor and Moore. Top of the league. :D

Haha good work.

I bought Bridge. Carr in the game isn't all that poor.

I haven't played in a while though.

I've been hooked on Hattrick.

Nah, he's not bad, but Richards already has a few goals off corners, which Carr'll never get. Bale is actually rated lower than Babayaro but he's done good for me. Duff is knackered, huge shock there, I know, and I've been playing Emre on the left with Dyer, Parker and Nobby/Milner. Martins and Owen are damn near unstoppable as a strike partnership in F07. I think they have 20 goals between them and I'm only into December.

Oba and Owen have saved me so many times at the death. I can always trust them to be huge. Oba has 42 for me and Owen has 35. We are in April.

On FM07, Ramage is pissed because I bought Per Mertesacker (who is amazing) and now Ramage isnt playing as much. Then Fat Freddie sold Owen without consulting me and now I have to find a striker. Makes me hate Freddie so much more.

Oba has 18 goals and Owen has 16, and I'm almost to the end of the January window. In the finals of the Carling Cup, top five in the league, and into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

I signed a bunch of scouted and academy 17-year-olds rated 55-60 and loaned them out all over the place in the January window (and I loaned Ramage, Huntington, Krul and N'Zogbia out too). Hopefully that'll bode well down the road. I sold O'Brien, Butt and Clarkie (who for some reason didn't retire in the game) and am going through the run-in with 20 players. Here's hoping that doesn't haunt me.

My first-choice starting XI is Given, Richards, Taylor, Moore, Bale, Solano, Parker, Dyer, Duff, Martins and Owen with a bench of Emre, Milner, Ameobi, Bramble and Carr. The other four I have that aren't on loan are Harper, Babayaro and two low-70 rated 33-year-old central midfielders I signed on the cheap as cover even though I'd put Emre there first.

Oh, yeah, and Arsenal have tried to buy Parker, Owen, Martins, Emre, N'Zogbia and Given. Turned 'em all down, cheeky bastards.

You dont have Harper on your bench? What would you do if Given gets injured?

That reminds me, I need to sign Phil Jagielka. :D

Nah, I'd last the rest of a game and then insert Harper. I just prefer to have two defenders, two middies and a striker on the bench. It gives me more options tactically. Keepers in video games rarely get injured anyhow.

Finished my first season and began my second.

We finished top of the league with 83 points. We won the FA and Carling Cups as you have to earn Europe your first year. Pompey, Reading, and Sheffield United went down and Leeds, Saints, and the Brummies came up.

I started my second season with a 6-3 win at Wigan. It was at this point I decided to turn the difficulty up to World Class as I feel I've got a better handle of all the new controls. I signed Gareth Bale for 3 million and he has been a great addition. I'm gonna try and sign Chivu before the end of the year. I loaned out a few of my younger guys and I was forced to loan out Dyer as he was deemed "a detriment to the team." He'll have a season at Swansea to think about his behavior in the dressing room. I got drawn into the CL with Barca, Ajax, and Torino. We were hammered 4-1 at the Nou Camp and beat Ajax at home 3-0. We sit second in the league with 16 points. 1 behind Spurs.
