Hes supposed to be a regular starter in La Liga next season and seeing as how hes working well with the first team I don't expect him to warm the bench.

He already played with the first team in this friendly. I think you're thinking about the deal with Arsenal. In England he needs to be 18 to play and thats why they sent him to Celta, where he can play and be under the age of 18.

No any non-EU player must be 18 to play in an EU league. So Vela is 16 he must wait two years to play. He isn't in spain cause they will allow him to play but because in two years time he can get Spanish citizenship. Which will allow him to play for Arsenal. He will play on the youth squad but it would be illegal by
Fifa law to play for the First or Second team.

don't even start that kind of argument with them...statistics will show up, rules will come abound, examples of why it can't be done...and lastly...a bet

I think he already went to europe with an EU passport. Lke he said though, since vela is living in spain, he only needs to be there for 2 years to get the EU passport, making him eligible to play anywhere when 18. Its a good deal all around, even if he gets no 1st team experience for the moment. Once he can play at 18, there wont be the problem with taking up a foreigner spot, so teams everywhere will be more willing to have him on the field.

He can play in Spain anytime, of course, for as long as the team has a sport for a non-european player, but he can't play in England until he turns 18.
Actually one of the conditions for the loan was that Vela has to be playing in the main team next season.

Paging Mike Lastort2!!! A few weeks ago the guy was going thread to thread refuting all of these people who say it's possible.
Any of you people who think he can play before 18 in a competitive match in La Liga want to put your $ where your mouths are?

As per this link It states clearly that he had family in spain and spain even offered him a place in there U-20 team. So he does not count as a foreigner. The problem was that his application for citizenship through family was delay until sept last year. Barcelona played him knowing his EU passport was assured but hadn't arrived yet but other clubs made a stink about it and the LFP told them that since his passport hadn't come in he could not play.

So what if he had family, as long as he didn't have a pasaporte comunitario (EU passport) he would still be considered an extracomunitario (non-european) player. And the article just says Spain wanted him to play for them, doesn't say when or for what team. I assume they meant as soon as he got his spanish citizenship.

What does this have to do with him being 17 or 18? The fuss was about his nationality, not his age. Barcelona wanted him to play as a european because in Spain there is a limit of 3 non-european players, and thay had all 3 spots filled (Márquez, Ronaldinho, Eto'o).
That's the reason why Carlos Vela can't play for Celta right now, they have all 3 non-european spots filled. Supposedly, next season they will naturalize one of those players to open up a spot for Vela. If I'm not mistaken the player in question is Roberto Souza of Brazil.

BTW, Carlos Vela turned 17 this past March, when he's 18 he will be able to play for Arsenal.

I think the FIFA requirement for underage players is that their parents should move to live in the same country where their son is going to play. In the case of Messi and Vela that was no problem.

Celta's coach has been qouted saying Vela will play for the first team the following year if the Brazilian player in question does indeed receive his eu passport...ignore the spazzos.
